This trick to getting the data files downloaded to speed up the version update, does anyone know if it works for Steam players ?
Been 7 hours now on 9% and the estimated time is still on unknown :(
Download update files from here: http://www.bluegartr.com/threads/126944-November-Patch-Download-OP-with-mega.nz-link

Copy/paste the extracted folder into the root folder; c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\ffxi\squareenix
Once you paste, it'll prompt you to replace existing files or not; say yes. Done.

Next, load up Windower/POL, login as usual, reach the PLAY screen, start update. This will check the files and should take no more than 20 minutes depending on your internet connection. Once it's done, it'll skip step 2 (downloading files) and go straight to step 3 (installing files). Takes 15 seconds at this point.

No idea what people have been doing on that final fight who said they have lost it in parties.

It was easier than the panopts that I had to do for the mission just before it :/

Stayed on BLU/WHM to get a look at it. (133 job points only in it) to go back on my BST if needed.
1 minute 50 seconds win.

It gets REALLY hard if too many people are in range. It has this mode it goes into where it absorbs physical or magic damage and also absorb hit points from nearby targets, like blood saber. I beat it easily on BLU with August, apruru and the rest ranger trusts. It's just one of those fights where the less you have in range the better.

Ah kk yeah that makes sense.
I noticed it start absorbing a bit at the end. So I stopped casting and just melee-d it to finish.

You'll only end up actually downloading anywhere between 1 and 200.
292 left for me.
About 40 mins, or so it says.

Much better than the "Unknown" I was getting before lol

I definitely lucked out with that 3 files left it seems. (From the link on here)

Though I had managed to get half of my 2500 files whilst I was napping for 3 hours this morning. So maybe it's those that people are missing. Definitely appreciate it now I see that the zone is filling up with US prime time on its way.

It's very similar to updating FFXI View if you use it.

- Download the .rar file from the second, correct link.
- Once downloaded extract that .rar file to your desktop and a folder called Final Fantasy XI should appear.
- Go through your program files until you find PlayOnline and open the folder. You should see a Final Fantasy XI folder in there.
- Select the Final Fantasy XI folder you have on your desktop and drop it into the PlayOnline folder and several prompts will appear.
VERY IMPORTANT: Make sure you select 'Copy and Replace' or 'Merge' or whatever appears when it appears. DO NOT skip doing this and pay close attention to the prompts that appear.
- Once this is done open PlayOnline as usual and proceed to the Final Fantasy XI login page.
- Once you select 'Play' it will begin to update. Do not panic when you see PlayOnline checking 55000+ files, it is only checking to see if they are there. In reality you will only download between 1 and 200 or so files, not sure what determines this. Once this is done, you'll be able to login.

I did this up to the dropping the ffxi folder onto the other and I wasn't given a promp :( Any idea why? if so do I have to manually copy.replace the files instead?

If no prompts appeared, then you copied the FINAL FANTASY XI folder you extracted from the download into the wrong root folder.
It should be copied in the c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\ffxi\squareenix, if you installed the game from Steam.

Sole Sushi, Coconut Rusk and Kitron Macron. I don't really know what else is there that wasn't there before but there wasn't anything else of interest I noticed. Vile/Vile +1 is handy but I dunno if you could already buy those.

ok I followed his advice and it worked for me logged in now wish i knew i could of done this in the morning. I had a blond moment when i was trying to copy and paste the zipped file into the folder i realised i needed to download a zip opening program but I'm logged in now so if you follow this advice it works (for steam players).

OOOOH!! That wasn't the final fight then? I thought it was way too easy.
That was just the battle for the final key item.

Yeah I'll do that last fight on BST with reraise gear on. Proper pita once he starts absorbing. I had him at <30% for not a minute less than 10 minutes lol. He was absorbing pretty much exactly the same as I could damage him. Weird weird battle though. No spoilers but definitely an interesting one ^^

That's what it costs already.

I'm not sure if it will lower it any further as I'm just doing the missions myself, but that is not the base cost of the KI; varies with fame or coalition ranks or both, but my fresh mule had 25k purchase for a bit so I'd interpret it as lowering the starting cap down to 15k.

And now I don't have FFXI installed anymore. What the hell. It's saying I no longer have the installation package (Final Fantasy XI.msi) file. Anyone?

I was blown away when I saw http://www.ffxiah.com/item/21147/khatvanga. It's a ultimate Blm/Sch staff...without Matk. It's also a Smn ultimate staff...without pet stats. They went full Mjollnir on the mage Aeonics. You know what I take that back, at least Mjollnir has a unique mage-like effect even if it sucks.
