i thought They Were only attacking PC users but i got a Tell From a "GMwtf" On PS2 yesterday during Merit, was weird yet funny.
Sorry you had that happen to you but Common Sense Should have kicked in. did you try /telling them back to see wtf was wrong? im pretty sure if you did something wrong the "GM" would warped you away from where ever you were to discuss the problem.

As interesting as this is on the social Darwinism scale... No one deserves to be hacked. These people shouldn't have to perform circus acts merely to secure their accounts.
I'll agree that for the seasoned vets in FFXI, this scam is obvious. But what about the people that are just starting out? Or, like the OP, never dealt with a GM? These scammers/phishers are getting more and more clever. For the non-internet savvy players, that website looks pretty legit. We can't assume that we are all tech savvy /b/tards that know all that is on the internet. Remember the people you deal with everyday in real life... now superimpose that on the FFXI gaming world.

Well see even with security token you can get hacked... i maybe be what was said in that thread.

People get tricked by scams everyday. It should really come as no surprise that they get tricked in a game as well. There is a saying, if you make something idiot proof someone will make a better idiot. What it comes down to is people being to question something and using a lil common sense. But sense is not common sadly ; (
Yeah, You're right Linkk. I think I got a bit sidetracked from the OP getting hacked by a false GM tell, to getting hacked in general. The main thing with the tells, it should only catch the people that have never talked to a GM, are new, or the utterly braindead. Seeing as the new and braindead can't be helped, nor do they have anything the RMTs would want, we gotta focus on the GM noobs :)
