FFXI Ends: Where will you log for the last time?
By maldini 2015-03-20 04:55:38
Will log off for the final time where I met my first friends
Jandor, Paeon, Dualsaga, Brooklyn, Funktown and Stefanee listening to this

Ending your own career in XI is a lot easier to take in than thinking of the game ending. I think I would be really sad if FFXI ever ended. The place where all the memories I have would be gone. Not to sound too sentimental or anything ; ;

Time for me to choose an area.
I was REALLY late to the CoP thing, and as such I got to see Al'Taieu very late. Even so, it was such an experience, finally setting foot in the area so many people had described to me. The look and feel of the entire zone, the mobs, the music....everything just felt so alien, and it was amazing.

My final log out (whenever that may be) will be in East Sarutabaruta. This is where it all started for me and this is where my journey will end. When I heard the melodic flute-laden theme for the first time, I felt like I had discovered a new world.

"If" I do come back for the final add-ons, after I beat them I will log off one last time in my favorite spot in Foret De Hennetiel near biv wrap #2 starring at the campfire while it rains.

Konschtat Highlands. The place where I really got into the game a few hours in back when I first started.

Right beside Prishe on the Moon, to keep her company for the rest of eternity. There will be no /logout or /shutdown, since SE is gonna have to force a disconnect for that final log.
The alternative is me and a group of friends decide to share a logout spot, since hey, backup plans are cool.

Willingly I'd probably log out in Tavnazia. The music there always reminds me of accomplishing something as I'd always use my Tavnazia Ring during CoP (after obtaining it, of course) or after some big fight like Bahamut, Ouryu, DM, etc.
However, if there were a forced shutdown in x hours, I'd go to Castle Oztroja. Mee Degi and I still have a score to settle. Ideally, we'd be locked in mortal battle, Monk versus Monk, and O.Kote would drop at the final notification of the game ending. 1/10297634537, the drop would be the last thing I see.

Mine will either be in the Queen's memorial garden in Sandy, or that cliff in Lufaise Meadows.

I get this feeling everytime I was in Gustaberg, the nostalgia is making me feel old though :/
As much as I hate the idea of Vanadiel Ending eventually I knew it must happen, the game isn't what it was when I first started and it can never be that way thanks to the way "people" want to play, which is uber casual (their numbers dwarf the hard core players) so we will never get that world back.
The private Servers I've looked at Strongly appeal to me as they are Pre ToAU and are Maintained better than SE ever managed, and the "GM's" they have on some are like Crazy Good but they don't ban windower because you actually need Ashita I believe to even play, they just ban ***like...
POS hacks, Clipper and Claim Bots etc.

It's more like 150 but then it's players who are Active, all in the same linkshell so there's constant communication, imagine them all being from the same country at the same time, thats 1k players - jp - eu - afk - rmt thats more like 90 actual players playing when you play, that you can partner up with, this one has slightly more.
Then factor in some people don't know they exist or are playing FFXI atm and don't wish to join!

If I had the option, which I don't, being 360 is being shutdown on it's own w/o my assistance, I would remained logged in for years and years beyond March 2016. I would become a permanent statue for all the iphone players to see beyond the end of our pc/console FFXI time online. I would probly assist the next generation of iphone newbs as well since nothing left to do.

Sorry double post but on Diabolos server there was this one character, I think JP, that stayed logged in at Port Jueno exit HP xtal for forever and never moved or even seemed to play the game for possibly years and years named Infinitsorrow. He eventually vanished. Could've been with the Diabolos to Siren merger but my last post just reminded me of him. heh /salute

My feelings are pretty much the same although a different area. I will never forget the very first time I entered West Ron and still remember the exact spot I engaged the first wild rabbit bare handed on WAR wearing nothing but Hume lvl 1 starter gear because i didn't know I was suppose to equip a weapon lol. I hated it. It wasnt until I made my way to La Theine for the first time and engaged my first mob there... Akbabah bird. That *** had sick evasion and hit hard as ***and I was literally squirming in my seat thinking "this mofo is gonna kill me" lol. I survived with 8 hp , ran to the mountain side to heal and the sheer epicness of excitement, nervousness, fear, terror, and taste of sweet victory had me hooked at that very moment. I never wanted to stop playing. lol

why would anyone want an offline mode?
you know how depressing that would be lol. a place where there used to be hundred now only one person lol
you want your own personal ghost town??? no thanks when servers shut down for final time, let that be the end.

A FFXI offline mode would consist way more than just turning the servers off, and implementing a local character save.
I think an offline FFXI is extremely possible. You can easily fill towns with NPCs that walk around. Have NPCs lined up outside of NPC bazaar stands, crafters outside of a guild making and breaking items. Make some townsfolk line up outside of the airships, with luggage and the sort.
You really could make XI come alive in an offline mode, it would require a lot of work, some good writing, and maybe tweak the missions a bit to be more exciting. Not saying the stories were bad, but they were written for an MMO experience, and that doesn't really translate to an offline one.
The AH could even be simulated based on your progress in the game, except prices would be showing. In my opinion though, I think it would be an even better experience without it, and having NPCs be even more important. You take over a region, bringing in items for your nation, and merchants make a great deal for you. If you don't, then they take advantage of you because you're an outsider.
A lot of the early FFXI content would work very well with an offline mode, and mid-new content could be worked in through progression. I think having exploration being the #1 goal, at least up to mid game, would be amazing. Adjust enemies to be more difficult, and make it so it's difficult just to run through the zones kiting everything behind you.
Basically transforming XI into a classic RPG type game.
I think it could be done in a way people would like it, but that's up to SE.

You could even hire NPC's to join your party! Random adventurers you meet in a town, or out in the world fighting. Maybe the average NPC would be free, they would be honored to join YOU after you help your nation enough, but maybe some NPCs would cost a bit of coin, like some of the top healers or tanks.
After you play with them enough, and you build in game friendship with them, they join you for good, or until some point. Maybe they get injured badly (more than just a K.O.) and they need to leave, maybe they are actually killed in battle, or maybe they miss their home nation, or something like that.
I always have liked game systems like that, especially the more creative ones.

I would like to add though, someway to incorporate being able to have a few ppl join your game as well. Or have multiple people in offline mode connect somehow. Not sure exactly how that would work though, lol.
By Kalila 2015-03-21 18:22:42
I think a borderlands 2 type co-op would be amazing, where enemies get stronger as more more human players are connected, but I'm sure they own full rights to that type of system unfortunately. Such a great idea though.
I would love to invite friends into your party, but I think it should be limited to 2-3, so you still have to hire NPCs. NPC party members should still be important.

A moment of solitude, standing beside Knightwell in West Ronfaure, casting my line one last time. In full 119 Gallant, my Ochain on one arm and, hopefully, Excalibur at my hip.
I shall then slowly walk the path to Southern San D'Oria, zone in, and walk slowly to North Sandy, and finally to the gate to the chateau.
As the timer ticks down to permanent shutdown, I will sip on a glass of whiskey and /sh May Altana's light guide you all, as my fondest memories become nothing more than that.
And then, I will close my laptop and rest, while I remember my friends from the past twelve years. I post one last time on the official forums thanking the developers, both past and present, for the wonderful world they created and I, along with many of you, enjoyed.

I'll probably buy a couple sneak potions and make my way to K.R.T. I'll probably walk around the donut, then slowly work my way to Vrtra. Imagining what would seem like holograms of MNK MNK MNK RDM WHM BRD fighting fleets of blood agrooing skeletons. Only, in hope, to reach Vrtra. The soul enemy of all Mnks and even till this day.. a ferocious foe to encounter on your own. To him i shall approach, engage.. and hundred fists.. in a last attempt to avenge Me and all my Monk brothers who have been slaughtered by him.

Yesterday I felt like "getting away from it all" for a while, dug out that swimsuit, and teleported to Purgonogo island. Hid my little guy and his automaton inside that warmachine for a while, while I caught up on TV shows on my DVR.
Some other good places? Well, there's a little house in southwest Grauberg that's nice and cozy. There's a few little sheds all over Rolanberry, too. La Vaule has some houses and that chapel, all wrecked in present-day Vanadiel. (I was so annoyed when I finally worked my way up to the chapel in La Vaule and found out it had no way to get inside.) And Movalpolos could be a pretty fun place if you don't mind smelling goblins and moblins all day. It's got some nice music, too.
Fort Karugo-Narugo is a really nice place, well furnished towers, lots of NPCs, too. I'm wandering around it right now looking in all the little corners of it where nobody goes because SE never did anything useful with it. They even have benches that you can actually stand on. And holy crap, WTF, I just found a delivery NPC in there! There must be some people over there in Japan who built this and are sad that so little was done with it.
Many of us have developed lasting friendships and had some amazing experiences in this game. Some people are drawn to specific areas for specific reasons....my question to you guys is what area would this be?
Where do you plan to log out for the very last time, remembering fondly what you experienced/shared there with friends as you hit the shut down/log out for good option?
No, this isn't a "OMG SERVERS SHUTTING DOWN" thread. It's a discussion thread about where you will log out for the last time when that time finally comes.
EDIT: @ all the "Why?" comments:
Let's be honest though. For many of us, we started playing in high school or college and are now thoroughly into adulthood. Playtime has already wizened and the chance of forging new friendships is slim compared to those who have already left.
It's going to be a very contemplative time for me and probably a majority of others and these are things that -- silly though as they may be in the context of life -- are meaningful decisions we need to consider.
