Maybe you guys can stop with your nostalgia and move to XIV
Played it, came back. It's an excellent version of what it's trying to be; it's just that what it wants to be isn't what I want to play.

It's an excellent version of what it's trying to be; it's just that what it wants to be isn't what I want to play. XIV is like my compromise of, "I want to play a progressing MMO that lets me always improve my character" and "I don't have much time and I don't want to talk to people." Also I love the final fantasy theme.
Otherwise, GW2 feels like the perfect casual/fun MMO to me right now... and it has a brilliantly well built f2p system. I'll probably get back in after the expansion. Offline

2016, they say.
[Edit: now they say 2015 almost everywhere. So soon, maybe!] Sidiov said: » Bismarck.Patrik said: » Otherwise, GW2 feels like the perfect casual/fun MMO to me right now... and it has a brilliantly well built f2p system. Maybe that's just how I feel

I went to FFXIV when it originally relaunched and enjoyed it. (lets be honest, you can only farm TT so many times before it got old and yes the game isn't perfect but if I could find a good group of fun people I would 100% go back) My original guild all quit due to rl/WoW and I came back to ffxi.

(Some people are still nice! But there's zero incentive to be so.) To be fair, I routinely go through Vagary and Alluvion shout groups without saying much of anything after "<job> {Do you need it?}". People will be lamenting the collapse of social structure in the post-WoW MMO until the Earth cools but people like being able to do co-op multiplayer content, the one semi-unique thing MMOs have going for them as games, without dithering about in an AOL chat room. The main reason XI's been able to survive as long as it has without a matchmaking system is because relatively little progression relies on your active participation in groups. Seriously, I don't know why people are so eager to ***on MMO matchmaking systems. Could you imagine, say, TF2 if you had to ask nicely to join a game? if only phantasy star online 2 would come to america

Look up pantheon: rise of the fallen; looks very promising since its creator openly said he was going for slower paced combat like ffxi and eq1, and that most of the game wont be soloable, even at lower levels.

I play Archeage and it's quite fun. If you play it do exp-quests till level 15-20 then start farming and building your ships for fun (because quest spams are boring).

Wanted to give this a try for a while I wait on last couple of updates for FFXI. I could use a group aka linkshell and or any help. Level 2 Necro so far!
I've been looking at Skyforge. Seems to be interesting.
Wildstar looks perfect for XI hardcores. Plenty of punishing mechanics during raids, weeks to beat one area, rewarding feelings after finally overcoming 'that challenge' only to be handed another.
Also, smaller playerbase from a game most people have comfortably written off. Sound familiar? Lakshmi.Byrth said: » Black Desert still looks cool, if it ever comes out in the states. Blade & Soul
