all you need to become an officer is a bachelor's degree. for awhile you didn't even need that, you could have an associates and during your lieutenant years would do degree completion.

Err, I've never heard of a branch allowing an associates degree to be used for obtaining a commission, especially while someone is allowed to collect officer pay and benefits.

Maybe 50 years ago when less people went to college, even then I'm pretty sure it was requirement, at least in the Air Force.

It's also competitative to get into certain branches as an officer and your degree matters.

Why do you choose to identify as such?
Because, after extensive research (yes, actual research written by peer reviewed sources such as The International Journal of Accounting and Finance and such) about events and business practices that prove the things that the conservatives (mainly businessmen and accountants such as myself) have said over and over and over time and again about the cause and effects of governmental and business practices, I find myself strongly into the conservative camp more than any other.

Non-*** answer: I strongly believe that businesses have helped dictate society far better and more efficient than government has. And I have seen the evidence and reasoning behind such assertions. No matter what anyone here will say, that research has been done and has been shown effective.

I guess my biggest issue is the voice of the conservative party, mainly the elected officials, who open their mouths and insert their feet in it so often, I think they developed the taste of leather and whatever ***they walked in that day.
You missed my point entirely.

Seriously, I have no clue what you just said.

For an example: you can call yourself the slowest runner on earth. you then go and run faster than someone else. through your actions you have acted contrary to the definition of what you called yourself and therefore cease to be what you called yourself.
Question: Do you still call yourself the slowest runner on earth when you run faster than even one person?

Answer: No.

Therefor, No True Scotsman fallacy does not exist in that statement.

However, what you said doesn't apply here. Christians believe in the devil long before you were even born, and they are still Christians. By your definition, they wouldn't be Christians because they believed in the devil.

There is no checklist of being a conservative. I am a conservative, I know I'm a conservative, I don't have to prove to you that I'm a conservative. I don't have to abide by your standards of a conservative, and you should not expect anyone to do so, because your standards of a conservative is different than mine.

No I didn't. where are you guys even getting this. where did I say if you believe in the devil you cease to be a a christian? nowhere.
Worship the devil. AKA believing s/he/it exists.

no, they are not the same, nor have I said otherwise. Why would anyone think they are the same?
In order to worship something, you have to first believe it. If you don't believe in it, then what are you worshiping in?

They are synonymous to each other. AKA they require each other to exist.

Sure, you can say you can believe in it but not worship it, but you still have to believe in it in order to worship it.

the Army allows this for sure, I remember back when I was a lieutenant having a fellow lieutenant show up in his civilian clothes. I asked him what he was doing, and he said that he was doing degree completion. He then went on to explain to me how he only had an associates degree and that he was not allowed to make captain until he finished his bachelor's.

So go spout your nonsense elsewhere.

So, was your pre-collegiate education private or public?

Fear of the Devil is similar in significance to the Worship of God.

Hence, they are synonymous, as they are very much alike in meaning and significance.

That sounds very weird.

If he was commissioned and he showed up in civilian clothes unless that was required for his job he was out of uniform. Which makes no sense if he was already an officer.

And being allowed to go up two ranks (second lieutenant --> first lieutenant --> captain) before completing the degree...is odd.

You're giving up on some of the greatest music ever played.

He's a Country/Bluegrass, Southern Rock musician, steeped in many conservative values.

But if you're going to have nothing to do with the Charlie Daniels Band, you'd also have to give up on literally dozens to hundreds of other musicians he's played with, worked with, or worked for.

I was very clearly asking why you would choose to label yourself, not why you chose a specific label. Seriously, is today "I can't read" day for you?

Protey making No True Scotsman claims about conservatives is very much in line with how our culture approaches the use of labels. So why use a label when you're going to argue that the checklist of attributes doesn't apply to you yet you still want to be under the umbrella? And, as a corollary, would you change your views to better fit under the umbrella of a label? Spoiler: you've already done the latter (everyone does).

I'm not defining what a conservative is. I'm letting each individual determine their view of what a conservative and what a liberal are, because we all have different viewpoints.

I place myself under the label because I want to make sure that people know how I identify myself instead of letting them guess it themselves. Because sometimes they are wrong (see: Altimaomega).

I rather deal with information than guesswork. Plain and simple.
