One of the biggest problems though with server merges is if they announce the source -> destination servers ahead of time, some people will hold names hostage on a destination server. It happened before and probably will happen again.
Ok I know I said I don't want to speculate but I'll leave these two nuggets here:

That Masters of the Masks could be so many things, FFXI, FFXIV, Dragon Quest, then there's the whole host of single player games they produce or possibly a new ISP.
The only connection between the 2 being the short amount of time before the live stream.

Masters of the Mask sounds like it could be a XIV thing, the Ascians in XIV wear masks with different markings. It could be the name of a patch.

Final Fantasy XI v2: Vana'diel Reborn.
AKA: "We hope you're not still playing on the same piece of ***PC that you were using in 2005." Realistically though, the smart move would be the usual wishlist of server consolidations and the cessation of PS2 support. But then again, this is SE; the smart move often eludes them.
