probably a noob question, but I'm not a PLD...
Atonement description says :Delivers a twofold attack. Enmity varies with TP.
I know that Atonement damage depends on how much enmity you have on a certain monster, but does anyone know how much enmity you get from using it?
By FaeQueenCory 2019-08-05 12:24:54
Yes.
EDIT: The enmity you gain is based on how much damage it deals. And how much damage it deals is based on all of your enmity.
Damage caps out at 2380.... so.......... yeah.
They need to make Atonement not.... this....

To further kick Atonement in the nuts.... The enmity generated per point of dmg drops off as target level rises. Particularly after lvl 100.
Anyway, the enmity varies part is a modifier on the base enmity from the DMG. IIRC, it's a x2 mod at 3k TP.
The issue there being that the max dmg is very low and thus the base enmity is pathetically low. So even with the enmity TP mod, and enmity+ gear, Atonement is not a worthwhile WS to use for Enmity generation purposes.
I would like SE to fix this.
Also, I'm curious if the Atonement enmity+ augment counts as standard gear enmity, or if it is a separate term. Has anyone tested that? I've not bothered to put any swarts into my Burtgang.

Pretty sure it doesnt bypass the enmity cap, from my limited testing on a dyna D NM when both pld and heavy dps are capped enmity, 3000tp atonement using r15 burt does nothing. while sentinel/provoke does.
take that as you will.

Cap is now +300 right?

Honestly since they feel the need to make sure pld is pathetically weak when in a serious tanking situation it would be neat to have this ws do big dmg so we can at least help out without becoming a sponge. They could absolutely boost the formula on this ws so we could get 10k out of it. Even 5k would be more respectable.
Also, I'm curious if the Atonement enmity+ augment counts as standard gear enmity, or if it is a separate term. Has anyone tested that? I've not bothered to put any swarts into my Burtgang. Best I can tell it's basically like having +100 more enmity in gear on, it seems to bypass the +enmity cap. Maybe I'm crazy but it does feel like its doing something. I wish I had some kind of evidence but that seems to be the nature of this wack ws.

Only reason to use Atonement is to get AM3 up if you have a burt. Otherwise, it's a dated WS from an older time where DDs struggled to do 1k WSs

DDs still struggle to hit 1k WS what you mean? You ever seen Fudo or Torcleaver?? They do 0 damage quite a lot.

Cap is now +300 right? The enmity gear cap is currently +200. Sentinel's enmity+ falls under this cap as well. (Sentinel JP however, do not.)

Learn to read much? 'Dated WS' 'older time' and 'struggled'... all past tense. You know like back in toau when atonement was added and we didn't autoattack for 1k. You know, when Torcleaver and Fudo didn't exist yet because the level cap was still 75 and even WotG wasn't even out much less abyssea.

You'll mostly use savage blade but CDC can put up okay numbers as well. But really, unless SE wants to overhaul pld and run, just level run.

I was making a joke, but ok Mr. Serious... We all know Fudo and Torcleaver whiff ever 2 seconds so just take the fun out why not.

But really, unless SE wants to overhaul pld and run, just level run. If you're never gonna make a burtgang or Epeo would you still say RUN is better?
Yes.
RUN is still unkillable with only Aettir. No content in this game requires Burtgang or Epeolatry.
Not only is RUN unkillable, but it has way better enmity management for long duration fights. It has insane spike enmity, capable of capping VE in 5 seconds or so, and CE to 15/30k in that time too.
The job has an array of Job abilities capable of helping party members stay alive.
What does PLD have? Rampart? The JA that lasts like 1 hit? Useless.
Sure PLD is the "safe and easy button", but it doesn't put aside the fact that PLD sucks ***.

But really, unless SE wants to overhaul pld and run, just level run. If you're never gonna make a burtgang or Epeo would you still say RUN is better? Aettir is actually extremely good. A good aettir build is better than anything pld can do. You can tank most content with it just fine. Worked on all the wave three bosses and all of the helms. Pld just cant hold hate and cant protect the party very well. Rune is just so far ahead of pld right now. Make a macc set and get a nandaka and laugh as you can AOE sleep mobs consistently in dynamis. with that set up i use my rune to stun zerde. PLD needs a massive overhall.

Been messing around with PLD/DRK full-timing ochain w/meva armor. Works very well and with Haste II on single target can keep up with, perhaps even surpass rune in hate management spamming flash, stun, and sleep.
Can tank Halphas solo pretty easily and not worry about hate reset as well as tank 2 sets of wave3 volte mobs w/o having to worry about charm/mijin/para etc. Makes pld pretty fun to play again.

After playing with rune/drk compared to pld/drk. rune was considerably better at holding hate. Wasnt even close. rune has more and better hate control than pld and Rune gets more out of going /drk than pld does. I will agree though that pld/drk is pretty good.
rune/drk is better at hate control than pld/drk for the same reason rune/war or rune/blu are better than pld/blu or/war.

I'd have to agree with that assessment since rune has more tools to begin with. My comparison was with run/blu during dyna runs. Meva sets are pretty crazy, I was evading Obstatrix's Fixed Dice, volte rdm spells as well as blu terrors/petrification spells.

Yeah, /DRK always been my goto for PLD and RUN.
* Poisonga tagging and lots of hate utilities with the ability to go offensive if you want.
* Having a reliable stun when you don't want to be hit by something.
* You don't have to be within like 5 yalms of targets like with /blu.
* BLU spells don't get screwed up if you main BLU a lot, though most people have windowed plugins for that.
* As long as you have any form of haste it far exceeds /war in hate management
I'm sure there's more benefits.. like Arcane Crest and the attack boost traits..

That's a given. RUN > PLD in terms of frequency of hate management spells/abilities.
However, it's nice to hear our experience, that PLD/DRK closes the gap a little bit with more M.Evasion (I assume Volte Gear from Dyna-Windy).

I would say hate control has a larger gap as /dark. It probably has the biggest gap of the three subs.

Hey guys, I just returned to the game and want to get back to the PLD as it's a job I've loved since the olden days. I'll pretty much just be a Nixxer, Priwen and Aegis PLD to start the next 3-4 months or so and only really plan to tank D Ambuscades, Omen, 145 Escha/Unity mobs and the other basic events that get the feet wet.
Between trying to balance monthly Ambuscade cape limits and working on other jobs, I can only really commit to a cape per month, so my choices may be crucial. It's hard to dig up research of any specific "meta" so I will be posting my augment approach and see if it needs correction:
August Cape: Generic Tanking/Turtle Set
HP +60, Enmity +10, HP +20, +20 MEva,
(With 4/5 Souveran +1, Defending, Flume Belt, it seems augmenting DT isn't necessary, so for Reisen Augment do I choose Def+50 or Block rate +5? Maybe Regen?)
Sept Cape: Fast Cast
HP+60, Fast Cast +10, HP +20, +20 MEva
October Cape: Hybrid Cape
Dex+20, DA+ 10, Acc+30, PDT-10
From here on out I'm not sure how to approach niche capes? Is Status Ailment Resistance stronger than MEva? Is SIRD that useful? Should I just work on the 2 WS sets then instead of these? Anything else I may have overlooked?
Thank you!

ItemSet 368467
I no longer play PLD, but back then i absolutely loved my SIRD set. With the correct setup it allows you to self cure and rebuff on super tanking situations without much trouble, just be sure to use your slots wisely and try to keep as much HP and DT after you cap it at 102%.
A few months ago we had this awful qutrub ambuscade, and when we did the SMN mew strat i had ochain & convert DMG to MP gear, ballads from a bard, and i was able to sustain myself with cure iv while super tanking the adds.
I overdid SIRD on purpose on that set, just to show you the options.

I have been in the process of gearing up PLD for our LS and part of that has been reading all 61 pages of this guide. I have been keeping a list of posts I found most succinctly described something I want to reference or showed a key step (IMO) to understanding the current status of PLD. I am not claiming this as the end all be all but I figured I would share it here for new people looking at the guide.
