Question:

For the Beast Ready equipment, which situation is this?

I don't have mythic yet, should I be using a charmer's merlin and add on pants for recast timer or should I be matching what is listed in your Ready gearset?

For instance, in Sinister Reign, I do more total damage than the other beasts but I am using Skull Render / Skirmish Axe and Valor Pants, they usually always use Add on Pants and Merlin, do I go for the lower ready recast or the bigger Ready moves?

You should aim for the ready set they suggest in this guide. You should also make a preready set that includes the charmers merlin in the off-hand slot and the add-on pants. Your macro should look something like this:

/equipset pre-ready
/pet "readymove"
/wait 1
/equipset ready

You should never full time charmers merlin or add-on pants. There are far better pieces than those to full time in. The pre-ready set allows you to get the -10 second ready delay bonus. Hope this helps!

It does, thank you! I got gearswap to work and it is now swapping on it's own.

I do have a question about gear swap though,:

If I use my macro "/bstpet 1 <me>" the gearswap doesn't trigger,

but if I manually go through menus and use an ability gearswap does trigger, is this intentionally? Can you not use macros with gearswap?

Gearswap doesn't recognize the /bstpet command, but you can do this as a workaround.

I wonder if it does not recognize /bstpet as a MONSTER command.

That is what the code for the readyprecast is set to trigger for. However, I'm not sure if we need to bug byrth or someone working on windower for that change, or if there is something else in the bst.lua which it can trigger to instead.

We could probably just use that big list of all ready moves, but that seems inelegant and tedious.

/bstpet as a command prefix (like /ja, /ma, /pet, /ws, etc) isn't recognized at all. Someone on the Windower team would need to add it to the resources.

Probably low on their list of priorities, but if someone wants to light the Byrth signal, go for it. :)

This is a completely different signal than the one I use for BouncingBertha.

Had a long post, but then I fail at exiting the wrong tab.. so short and sweet:

I came back a couple months ago, and I am an old BST that has adapted through the times, but have not come up to the current ilvl stuff. BLM is my main and BST is my secondary. My BLM is finally JP capped and have gained some BST stuff along the way to hobble along.

My question is, where at a minimum do I need to be at to join CP/JP groups? I'd like to take advantage of the current CP bonus.

Does it make a difference whether it be a manaburn PT in Dho, vs a BST PT in Reisen?

Must have 10 sec ready timer, enough accuracy and attack, af3 119 gloves preferably to bonus axes.

30 Sec recast to start with -15 from merits, so 15 sec off the bat. Do I just gimp along until JP 100 for the other -5, since Charmer's Merlin and Shanttoto pants arent ilvl?

What kind of acc/atk are we talking about?

I made a quick list of what pet-only self-skill chains can be performed. This was everything I could find. For regular use, the lizard pet is the big winner as it can make an L2 chain and burst on itself with just three charges, multistep, and the lizard pet is Warrior class also - making use of Fencer traits. Other pets have situational uses, like Tulfaire under Unleash.

Rabbit
foot kick -> whirl claws = impaction

Lizard
brain crush -> tail blow = fusion (fireball will burst)
blockhead -> tail blow = impaction (fusion is L2 and therefore better unless this is part of a multistep)
tail blow -> brain crush = liquification (fusion is L2 and therefore better unless this is part of a multistep, fireball will burst)
multistep: blockhead -> tail blow -> brain crush -> tail blow (fireball will burst, if you can time it to have charges)

Grasshopper
sensilla blades -> tegmina buffet = detonation
tegmina buffet -> sensilla blades = scission
multistep: sensilla blades -> tegmina buffet -> sensilla blades

Sheep
sheep charge -> lamp chop = impaction

Tulfair (under the effects of Unleash only)
pentapeck -> pentapeck = light (molting plumage will burst)
pentapeck -> swooping frenzy = fusion (light is L3 and therefore better, molting plumage will burst)

Diremite
double claw -> spinning top = fusion
grapple -> spinning top = impaction (fusion is L2 and therefore better)
spinning top -> double claw = liquification (fusion is L2 and therefore better)
multistep: grapple -> spinning top -> double claw -> spinning top

Raptor (under the effects of Unleash only)
chomp rush -> chomp rush = darkness

Apkallu
beak lunge -> wing slap = liquification
wing slap -> beak lunge = scission
multistep: beak lunge -> wing slap -> beak lunge

Mandragora
head butt -> leaf dagger = scission
leaf dagger -> head butt = detonation
wild oats -> leaf dagger = distortion
multistep: alternate head butt and leaf dagger

Cannot self sc
crab, fish, fungar, eft, fly, snapweed, raaz, beetle, tiger, colibri, spider, antlion, ladybug, slug, frog, acuex, mosquito

---

Some options for magic bursting trusts include:
Shantotto (in all her forms, Shantotto 2 being the best)
Any BLM or SCH trusts. I'll be experimenting with this setup:
Tank - Healer - RDM - BLM or SCH - BLM or SCH

---

Edits:
thanks for finding more, Falkirk and Kingofbastok.
found more multisteps
trusts
improved readability

You get -5 from merits, -5 from Charmer's, and -5 from Shantotto pants, so unless you want to "gimp along" at 25 second ready timers, you're gonna want to use them. Also you should be swapping them in and then immediately back out for maximum effect, so the non-ilvl nature of them shouldn't be a problem except to drop the max HP/MP of your Trusts briefly.

Mandragora
head butt -> leaf dagger = scission
leaf dagger -> head butt = detonation
wild oats -> leaf dagger = distortion
multistep: alternate head butt and leaf dagger

According to the Main Guide by Falkirk, the Diremite has the same SC properties as the Lizard, so it should be able to make Liquefaction (Spinning Top to Double Claw) & a multistep SC that ends with Fusion (Grapple to Spinning Top to Double Claw to Spinning Top). The downside to the Diremite is that it doesn't have a Ready move to MB the SC and it's ready moves have lower dmg caps than the Lizard's (the Diremite also doesn't have Fencer, so you lose the TP Bonus).

This is mainly just an FYI, but one thing to note about the Mandy Jug is that Leaf Dagger tends to be pretty inaccurate. When we tried popping the T4 & T5 bosses in Vagary with me as BST trying to make a solo SC on Fire Elementals with the Mandy, Leaf Dagger ended up missing nearly every time (had decent accuracy gear, HQ Akamochi, and Crooked Drachen Roll). After that, we decided to just have a second BST use a Chapuli and make Distortion with Wild Oats to Sensilla Blades. The Mandy & Chapuli could also be used to make the 4 and 6 step SC's with alternating Head Butt & Sensilla Blades.

Probably should have said this first, but thanks for making this Solo SC list Thydonon.

I'm probably misremembering, but wasn't Leaf Dagger one of those strange moves that was based on Ranged Accuracy?

Yes it is. We have always used mandy pet. As long as the BST has decent accuracy/r.acc set it is not a problem. Leaf will miss if someone pulls hate and causes the elemental to move away from the mandy - any amount of distance between the mandy and the elemental causes the ranged accuracy of leaf dagger to drop tremendously.

As a returning player, who just got BST 99, what would be the best course of action in terms of gearing up? (Like, which pieces should I aim for first) And I'm mainly playing Solo/Duo with another BST, so preferably content in which Trust + Duo Partner are able to complete with relatively gimp gear (i117 bayld/spark/some Tojil & other delve gear) Sorry if this was answered already somewhere in the thread, I did my darndest to try and find it but couldn't >.<

If I can solo it on BLU (with Trusts), I'm confident BSTs can duo if you're careful, particularly of Curse; you may want to stagger pets to avoid rapid-death from Curse -> AoEs. But my DT sets aren't the best of the best, so I'm not sure how comparatively durable you could be with top-notch gear against that combo.

Most important pieces for bst are first and ilvl 119 Axe
You summoned pet can only be as high as the ilvl on your mainhand weapon. don't swap a weapon into the mainhand unless it is the highest ilvl you can get.

2. Get Charmer's Merlin and Desultor Tassets for ready recast reduction.

3. The level of trusts will auto-adjust to your current ilvl. This is why its best to try to stay at ilvl 119 with any gear swapping.

There are few exceptions to this. The only exceptions are where the advantage of the gear outweighs the level penalty. I'll name 3 for bst:
Offhand - charmer's Merlin
Desultor Tassets
Anwig Salade

The first 2 are swapped in only briefly.
Anwig salade gives a whopping -10% dt for pet. This is very significant for pet survival in tough situations and solo.

I don't think there are any other exceptions for bst.

The ilvl 119 gear is more important for trusts. I have read an account of someone finishing a solo only by avoiding dropping their trust level. it was that close of a fight/solo.

Once I got the method down, quite easily. My Trust setup was August, Iroha 2, Selh'teus, King of Hearts, and Apururu. Using /SCH was the major key for me that made the difference between my win and loss. Too often curse would lower the HP of Iroha and Selh'teus enough that a meteor spam would wipe them out before I could get off White Wind or Apururu would think to Curaga. Given that they were my biggest combination of survival/MP restoral/DPS (via boosting TP through Rejuvenation), keeping them alive was key.

General strat was to have Sheep Song set to sleep the adds should they spawn (I have a couple of runs here and there where he never bothers, other times he does it instantly), and otherwise keep up Saline Coat, Mighty Guard, Nature's Meditation, and the Def Down from Sweeping Gouge. I had to make sure to Accession Cursna if we had a Necrobane go off (KoH or Apururu would usually get my para off asap, or I'd cast that first if they both failed), and as long as I kept to that, it was a pretty standard DD beatdown.

For the BST equivalent, you're either gonna need to use at least one Sheep for keeping adds slept or else have some plan to keep your Trusts kicking. Sheep + a solid offensive pet is your best bet, probably cricket or tiger. Seeing as you're more focused on keeping yourselves alive and Trusts don't support pets, you'd probably want a spread of a Tank, 2x Healer (I like Mihli/Apururu combo for this, that cureskin...) and a RDM, preferably KoH for fast refreshes/nas. I would recommend at least one of you, if not both, go /sch and offhand a Beatific Shield for the high MDT on it. Alternate Accession + Cursna when Necrobane comes up, or help cover Paralyna support. Otherwise... beat him down. 'Nuff said.

Of course, I am no expert on BST as much as I enjoy the job, so I'm sure Falkirk, Beazt, or anyone else who has more experience with the job would probably refine my strategy to make it better. This is mostly theory, and I haven't tried it on anything beyond BLU, so take that with a grain of salt.

Thanks for the response! I've gotten the Charmer's Merlin, Anwig Salade, and Desultor Tassets will come soon. In your opinion what's the easiest i119 to go for so I can begin solo/duoing things more efficiently? I've been trying to work on a PDT set, it's slow going thus far, picking up which pieces I know I can solo (namely old content stuff lol) are there any gear sets that are relatively easy to come by? I've been a bit reluctant to try a lot of the newer content because I'm not entirely sure which is soloable and which is just simply a pipe dream as far as solo goes.

Can two bst burn Naphula?

Yup. Pretty straight forward. Stay away from it unless doing pet abilities, avoid getting hit by Cackle, get MDD off if you do get hit. Just use Xerin/Bertha, pop Tegmina if adds pop - it should wipe them out. Ran up real quick after LS Reisen event today to do one. He didn't pop adds this time. With less gear/job points/vorseals Trusts may become necessary.

Does anyone here have a gearswap that is up to date with new pet macros aside from the one Falkirk uploaded on front page? Don't get me wrong I love all the work you do but that gearswap is kinda overboard for my needs.

Also can anyone give advice as to what Job Points should be gotten first if you want to solo harder NMs? Saw 2 BST downing Yakshi with a GEO and COR few days ago in about 1-2 mins but I guess thats not possible if you don't have certain gifts?
