Surely you don't mean Terry Pratchett's Thud!? To my recollection, the word never appears in the text of the novel.

You haven't read the said book, haven't you? Word "thud" is said many many times in it, I lost count.

33 times give or take. (had the pdf of the book on my pc and did a "find all" lol)

Oh, I thoroughly forgot about the game named Thud! that was used as the thematic central element. That hardly counts, though; it's a proper noun. May as well complain that the name Vimes shows up several hundred times.
