Jon Stewart to leave Daily Show, Comedy Central says - BBC
Quote: Jon Stewart, the host of Comedy Central's The Daily Show, will step down later this year, the president of the network has confirmed.
"His comedic brilliance is second to none," said Michele Ganeless in a statement.
Stewart, who began hosting the show in 1999, will remain there until later in 2015, she said.
"He is a comic genius, generous with his time and talent, and will always be a part of the Comedy Central family."
In 2013, he took time out to direct a film, Rosewater, about an Iranian-born journalist who was imprisoned and accused of spying.
His departure comes after the network lost another major comedy figure, Stephen Colbert, who left to take over David Letterman's late night show on CBS.
LOTS of stories out there on this.

South Park is the only reason I watch CC
The quality of CC has been going down for years.

Very few shows on TV are good though.

That is true. I used to love CC many years back. Lot of good quality shows and stand ups. Now a days its just low quality bull ***. Those two were a good example of it.

With Jon and steve gone how will all the liberals keep up with the news? I mean damn.. Brian Williams can't lead the left-wing all by himself! (Or can he)..

I haven't kept up with any of it, but when I did watch it, it was decent, was never much on the Colbert Report though, although I've gotten a chuckle here and there.
Either way: anything but low quality.

I always thought Colbert was better. Stewart was never even as funny as his supporting cast.

I always thought Colbert was better. Stewart was never even as funny as his supporting cast. Eh, to each their own. A lot of people think that Will Ferrell is the funniest thing ever, when I just roll my eyes.
Honestly never really bothered to watch either Colbert or Stewart outside of when at my friend's house he would watch it, I never found it to be that great.

Guess we'll have to start making fun of Republicans and FOX news on our own ;)

The Daily Show and The Colbert Report are about as close to real news in America as you can get, and they are comedy with a side of talk show. Pretty pathetic.

But to do that you would have to actually watch and listen to them once which I am sure you have never done outside of the Daily Show's editing.

I'm sad if for no other reason than there will not be any more Rallies to Restore Sanity. The state of the US is in such a clusterfuck we could really use something like that every day. Washington politics are so broken we're just resorting making new local laws at an alarming rate and to local governance. Which will create more divide. If it keeps going it'll be like driving to another country when you cross a state line. They were one of the few trying to heal the nations divide, if not all the time, at least most the time. Unlike shitty shows like Bill Mayher who loves the smell of his own ideas so much he just can't shut up about it. At least we still have Last Week Tonight which is probably the best political show on TV right now for it's investigative journalism alone. As for right wing shows, most of them are on Fox News and I don't trust them to tell me what day it is, let alone something important. The number of lies they put out per hour is off the charts. Not that any cable news source is good, a study found that those who read their news were much more informed. It also showed that those who watched fox news were less informed than those who didn't watch any news at all. Now that's some real bullshitting.
We also have Jon Stewart as one of the few people who will rightfully call out shows like this one:
YouTube Video Placeholder
At least my local news isn't ***yet. At least totally. And there's some good online news sources. Few. But yah. I also enjoyed the daily laughs, even if I didn't agree with them they could make me laugh which is priceless imo.
He makes fun of a bowties as he sits there wearing a V-neck. Srsly?

My favorite memory of the Daily Show was back during the election in 2000 when they called their election coverage "Indecision 2000", and then the next day when they had to do a recount, I can still see vividly in my head the image of John Stewart next to the "Indecision 2000" graphic shouting, "America, you weren't supposed to take us seriously!"

Based on this, it looked better the first time.
Lewis Black's segments in the early 2000s were always my favorites, but that might be as much my nostalgia speaking as anything.

When I heard this on tv last night I was O_O? and then :'(. Jon Steward was one of my favorite tv icons and I've watched his show for years.
I was never much of a fan of Colbert and I'm not gonna say why since I know trolls would eat it up.
I mean who could possibly fill his shoes? The Nightly Show has definitely because one of my favorite newest news/comedy shows because it comes on right after the Daily Show and both hosts make me LOL in a good way.
I'm not really into politics but Jon's humor was the best and what gave news stories their comedic side. I mean I know after being the host for 17 or so years can become taxing and especially since his close friend, Colbert left it probably left a void, since surprisingly they both made a good "balance" with their shows.
Honestly, I don't know who could take his place. I mean if John Oliver was still there he could probably take his place when he leaves but John has his own show on HBO >_<. Loved John's British accent he has something special.
Maybe one of Jon's male senior correspondents maybe? Jordan and or Alsop has my vote.
I know 2015 is still young, so we Daily Show fans should treasure each episode Jon is still on, on the Daily Show. I will miss him, he is a huge supporter for Gay rights and his comedic wit and his personality are what draws me to his show every night.

I tried to watch a few episodes of the Nightly Show... Just awful and everyone on there seems really awkward in their discussions. Never laughed once. I eventually had to stop giving it a try as it was painful to watch.
Larry made a much better correspondent than a host.
John Oliver on the other hand was an awesome host, even funnier live in the studio when he does the Q&A before taping.
