Meh, just don't care enough on that subject to put any effort into finding out more, lol.

In other news, pay up to those who said there would be a rate hike!

Quote:
The Federal Reserve will not be hiking interest rates, Fed Chair Janet Yellen announced Thursday in a much-anticipated decision that sent stock markets soaring.

Economists and Wall Street have been abuzz about the possibility of a rate hike, which would have been the first since 2006. The Fed has kept rates near zero for years as a tactic designed to boost a faltering economy. A hike would have signaled that Yellen believes the economy has recovered enough for the Fed to begin “normalizing financial policy,” as Yellen said in July.

Earlier in the summer, Yellen had been hinting that she expecting to raise rates by the end of the year, though she moderated the forecast by saying that “the course of the economy and inflation remains highly uncertain, and unanticipated developments could delay or accelerate this first step.” But then, of course, unanticipated developments happened.

The Chinese economy roiled over the summer, marked by a pop in the stock market bubble and the Chinese government’s harried attempts to shore up the economy, including the devaluation of the yuan. The tempest underlined global traders’ suspicions that the Chinese economy was softening, sending financial markets around the world into a tailspin.

The Fed might still raise hikes later this year. But some economists are saying there’s no rush: despite promising unemployment rates, a slowdown in job growth and remaining slack in the labor market means that the Fed doesn’t need to worry about inflation–the main risk of low interest rates–quite yet.

Yeah, except it's not a government-issued rule change. Banks are spearheading this movement.

I figured that alone would make you not like it.

The idea is to keep consumers more secure.

Despite what you think, I generally don't oppose things just for the sake of opposing things, or to spite the person presenting things.

Help, Saev has me thoroughly blocked (at least, I think he still does) and I'll still [+] his FFXI-related posts when they make sense.

And if anything, it takes heat off of the consumer if their card is stolen and misused, putting it on the card issuer and the merchant.

The only negative might be smaller businesses that don't keep up could get burned, which would be unfortunate, but at the same time...I've been to a lot of small business that are cash-only, so.

All in all I am largely in favor of secure technology. Biotagging. Let's get it done!
I'm surprised.

For somebody who loves to screw over businesses, and banks even more, you certainly are receptive to a new rule that, if both merchants and banks play by the rules, can shift the total liability of the fraud to the consumer.

Remember, this new rule punishes the one with the lowest security measure. If merchants have a reader that accepts and processes EMV cards, they escape the liability. If the banks issue the cards with EMV chips in them, they escape the liability also. So, that leaves the user of the card to take the hook....

I'd be interested to see how that plays out. Consumer advocacy groups would absolutely crush that one.

Saying "you didn't keep your card locked in a case clamped to your testicles" wouldn't really fly in a stolen card scenario.

Eh. I'm not super worried at this point. There's room for abuse there -- on both sides -- and I'm sure we'll see a bit on both sides, but overall anything that increases overall security is okay by me. And this does that.

Net win.

Operation Jade Helm ends

Quote:
Jade Helm 15 officially ended on Tuesday, capping an eight-week military training exercise in Texas and six other states. Army officials said the drill was conducted to provide Army Green Berets, Navy SEAL team members and other Special Operations forces with a realistic war-game experience that included military personnel playing the roles of good guys and bad guys. But Jade Helm fueled concerns that it was part of a plot by the Obama administration and the military to impose martial law or create, as Infowars.com described it, a “technological infrastructure for authoritarian political control.”

If the witness reports posted online by a national group of civilian Jade Helm monitors were any guide, the operation seemed to have run smoothly without the feared authoritarian overtones. The group, which was called Counter Jade Helm and founded in Arizona, maintained that its purpose was not to thwart the exercise but use it to practice its own “counterinsurgency” and intelligence-gathering skills, although there was little intelligence to gather.

On Aug. 6 at “17:54,” a dispatch from Louisiana on the group’s website notes that military personnel were seen on Caddo Lake near the Texas line. They are described as “8 military aged men, very fit on 8 brand new Jet Skis,” raising the prospect of an invasion by troops using water-recreation vehicles. “When the eyewitness talked to them,” the report continues, “their story did not add up.”

Gov. Greg Abbott, who was criticized after he ordered the Texas State Guard to monitor Jade Helm, received his final daily briefing on it Tuesday morning from his deputy chief of staff. “The exercise operated on schedule and proceeded as planned,” said John Wittman, a spokesman for Mr. Abbott.

Asked how Jade Helm went in the West Texas town of Big Spring, one of more than a dozen mostly rural communities in the state that hosted activities on military bases and private and public property, officials compared it to Y2K and the doomsday predictions that never materialized when 1999 became 2000.

“It was so under the radar that I don’t even know anyone who came into contact with them,” said Big Spring’s mayor, Larry G. McLellan.

Its over! Jet Ski invasion, damn, never thought of that. I've always wanted to go Jet Skiing, thats probably my biggest regret, all those summers at Padre Island, never rented Jet Skis.
