I need to put together a sketch comedy show. I'm pretty sure it's not hard. The formula from SNL is simple.
1. Do a lot of hit and miss sketches. 2. Miraculously create one that works.* 3. Beat that one sketch to death. 4. Make a movie based on that sketch after it's already no longer funny. 5. Repeat. *Or, in the case of Mary Catherine Gallagher, one that doesn't work. Offline

Ernest and Obama visit Africa: A movie about hope change and finding your father !
I found it 1:30 mins of comedy gold ! Ernest is also a lovable idiot even when spraying liquid diarrhea into VHS sets everywhere. The late 80s / early 90s were a strange time.
I always confuse Ernest with Pee Wee Herman.
The difference between an Ernest movie and an Adam Sandler movie is that the former really feels from the heart, even if it's complete diarrhea whereas the latter is just pure corporate diarrhea.

Jim Varney was actually quite talented when he had something worthwhile to work with. Jim Varney was actually quite talented when he had something worthwhile to work with. Sandler has proven that he too has talent. His earlier outings were more authentic and from the heart complete with likable all American characters. It's only once he went full sellout that we got some of his worst. Punch Drunk Love? The Waterboy? The Wedding Singer? All solid movies. Reign Over Me is especially surprising from him. I think Sandler's hate is deserved because he swings for the toilet, doing movies far below his skill level for a quick check. In a way he's like Eddie Murphy, another comedy guy who pumps out garbage far below his potential. Offline

I think his shtick has just lost its novelty. Besides, if someone offered your 40 mil for a few months of jumping around like a clown in front of a camera, would you pass it up for artistic integrity? I sure wouldn't. fonewear said: » Fast and Furious 19 The one where Paul Walker walks again ! Sounds like a walking dead spinoff. Costarring Christopher Walken. Offline

And that's fine but being only about the money has consequences for legacy. Doesn't mean that what he's serving up isn't garbage below what he *could* do, given what we've seen. He's become so consistent on churning turkeys that his good movies get undue hate. Ernest movies are a complete mess but you'd be hard pressed to say any of them are intentionally antagonizing the audience. The same cannot be said of Sandler's flicks. Please no.
Walker's death was a good event for my life cause it means there are no new shitty Fast&Furious movies that my brother will force me to watch. fonewear said: » Speaking of movies that don't need remade I hear they remade National Lampoon's vacation...why cause money is good ! It's the remake you never knew you didn't want. Fast and Furious series is right up there with The Expendables for a dumb movie to put on while making pizzas and beer dissapear with your friends.

The premise seemed okay about 14 years ago when I saw the first one. That and I was about 15 at the time. If you have the mentality of a 15 year old or like cars jumping over stuff. You will enjoy it. |
