In fairness, Africans have a pretty *** horrible history of treating each other in unspeakable ways too. They just started it on a micro tribal level, whereas Europeans took it macro before the Africans could.

A great line in a movie, in real life it doesn't always apply these days. Especially now that we have so many people looking back on history with a bit more of a modern perspective. We know how to go back and examine things from multiple angles.
In fact, looking at history from the perspective of the vanquished is almost what I'd call the new big thing in history.
For instance, we know that Christopher Columbus was a terrible human being and shouldn't even be honored with a memorial, let alone his own federal holiday and an entire order of modern Christian knights. (Which is not condemning that organization; just their namesake. The KoC do some very good charity work and while not entirely without criticism, it's not really the point I'm trying to make here.)
