I was going to be a teacher went to college for it. Changed my mind (to business)cause why be in that much debt to make 25,000 a year.

Or even worse not even get a job in teaching but be a sub teacher. And still in debt.

Hell I could make about the same money and probably enjoy being a bartender. With no debt.

I would be a bartender if I didn't live in a place lacking good bars...

Just gonna say US university cost is insane. It's out of this world, I don't know how it still stands accepted.

Because in HS no one talks about money to students. It's a running trend in America, a land where money is God, that we don't talk about money whenever we probably should be talking about money.

Medical costs? No one talks about em.
University costs? Nope.

Everything is 'financed' which is codespeak for massive debt inbound.

See, people tend to blame the victim cause it's easy and convenient but really, the trend in college has been to go first, ask questions later and who are you at 16-17 to buck what the adults have told you?

(Enter a generation of students with thousands in debt with shitty work prospects.)

Now that the tides turned began to turn away from blindly going to overpriced private colleges guess where's getting swamped? State colleges which have seen funding cuts over the years. When I was in college we had streams of private school students who dropped out to join us less well-off folk in state schools.

(Enter overcrowded classrooms and teachers paid so low you'd think we're in a MAD TV sketch.)

You've now got a scenario (in my state at least) where immigrant kids and competing for slots with middle class folk at state colleges because they're alot cheaper. For most immigrant/poor/minority students college is a major path of breaking the poverty trap. They can't exactly afford to abandon that prospect given the conditions of their social safety nets.

As for the skilled trades route? You'd best be committing to that because everything else wants -some- college. Put down you have no college and you might as well be shredding your own resumes.

I guess you don't vote, or don't understand that it is the people who vote, not the campaign funds.

We're talking about different things, bud. Campaign tactics like over-exposure and paying armies of PR people to twist anything around is what taints the landscape. Politician shouldn't be a career, but the private funding system rewards the ones that are good at getting rich people to give them funds to run those kinds of campaigns, not the ones who have a goal and a PLAN.

Budget appropriations are guidelines associated with an agency's spending. Very rarely do an agency meet budget, they generally go over their budget for the year and ask for more money for next year.

You are the one who should do some research.

I can't figure out where you're getting this idea. Agencies can request all they want, they are given a budget by Congress and it's spend it or lose it. When the budget isn't sufficient, they can ask for additional money, but it's Congress who either appropriates more or allows them to borrow from the next year's budget. When a kid spends all his lunch money on candy, do you blame the kid or the parent when they ask for more and get it?

Asura.Kingnobody said: »
But now you are increasing the PSAs needed by multiple times.

Assuming there's a viable 3rd party candidate, you're talking about 3 PSA's per major network in any given time period, that's not any more than they already are required to air. And candidates would obviously be allowed to purchase as much primetime space as the fixed budget allowed. They could do as many interviews and they liked, etc. There's nothing stopping them from spending that budget on whatever they please, they just wouldn't be allowed to spend more or forced to spend it. Having spent less would be a true indicator of a fiscal conservative.

Asura.Kingnobody said: »
Who's going to determine what message will go out? You just stated in #3 that you are going to have "the public" determine what messages get released, and you are limiting the message itself based by a restraining budget that will either get out of proportion quickly or not get conveyed to anyone due to "budget restraints"

You're purposefully missing the point for whatever reason.

I never said the public would determine anything other than who has earned their vote by demonstrating their ability on a level playing field.

Presidential campaign spending has become absurd. A combined 2 billion dollars in 2012, ~1.4 billion in 2008, ~880 million in 2004, ~530 in 2000. Do you see a trend? It's nearly doubled every cycle since 1980. And, more and more of it is coming from private donors. Almost half of GHWB's campaign receipts were out of public money, neither Obama or Romney took any of the nearly 100M they were each entitled to under current public funding. As it sits, in the last 2 presidential races, over 3.5 billion dollars of private campaign funding was spent on every manner of advertising and administrative luncheon and banquet and we have seen less and less actual vetting of candidates on their skills and experience. Our system is broken, and the public funding system we're supposed to have wasn't.

B average is essentially you're not a total *** up.

If you can't maintain a B average at a community college you just don't give a ***.

I know you love me and all, but seriously.

You know exactly what I mean, but you are trying to pick a fight when one isn't due. But thanks for admitting that I'm right about Obama's plan.

Secondly, minimum wage jobs are not the only jobs available for people to work. There are a lot of jobs out there that nobody wants to work because it's not the cushy jobs that retail offers, and those jobs do not even require a high school diploma.
Citation please.

I'm on the ground floor of the job market, as are a lot of my friends, and these jobs don't exist. We have a minor construction boom going on in this city, no less, and the best I can hope for is a brief contract for a couple weeks before the crew (which is always from out-of-state) finishes up and leaves.

I work with the homeless and otherwise disadvantaged, too. They wouldn't bat an eye at cleaning toilets or doing most of the dirty jobs that middle class white America doesn't want, but the jobs aren't available. They're filled by the over-qualified or by people who've had to come out of retirement.

So where are these jobs that pay more than ***wages, offer a 40-hour week, and don't require a degree or trade school training?

2.5 GPA. .0 to .33 is -, .33 to .67 is letter grade, .67 to .99 is +

Only exception to the above rule is 4.0, which is the same as A+.

It's called hyperbole when you exaggerate for effect. A "B" average means an average grade of "B". If you have one "A" and one "C", you have a "B" average. Your statement was dishonest at best and idiotic at worst.

I don't have an opinion on his plan, I haven't even seen it, I have an opinion on hyperbole.

All the jobs you noted require, at bare minimum, trade school. How the *** is someone paying for trade school when they can't keep the heat on?

I quoted the relevant paragraph for a reason. You claim there are jobs better than Wal-Mart and McDonald's that don't even require a high school diploma. I want you to prove that. I have a friend who injured her shoulder and can no longer do the work she's trained to do (pastry chef), so she's trying to find some kind of office-type work but literally no one will let her answer a telephone because she doesn't have a university degree.

But, hey, if you think we need more skilled tradesmen, I won't disagree. Just tell me who is going to pay them while they learn. I know trade unions offer a wage to apprentices, but there's no one giving me money to get a CDL. If there is, do tell me, I know a bunch of people who'd love to do just that.

Tell her strip clubs are always hiring and if she is half decent looking she could make way more than being an office worker.

You don't need a degree to work in an office. I see ads for administrative assistants /secretary all the time you just need experience. And knowledge of Office programs.

She's got a huge rack but she would not be an effective stripper. Nor should that be the sole option available.

And in this city, which is allegedly a tech capital and lots of other blah-blah-blah, no degree and limited experience means you'll join several dozen other resumes in the circular file. What the ad says and what the employer wants aren't the same, you should know that.

I'd say she look to get on disability until she can find work if her shoulder is that messed up.

Then there's dealing with the ***/dipshit interviewer who has no idea on how to conduct themselves or represent their employer effectively.

Seriously, saw a lot of that in the past 4 years.
