Matthew 7:15-20 sounds like Matt doesn't understand basic horticulture.

No bad fruit from a good tree? Are you kidding me?

Ehh? This sure got weird.

As I've said before, the Old Testament is just a bunch of oral stories and traditions that were passed down generation to generation until they were written down. The laws and rules they speak about are merely just things that "worked" for those people, in that environment at that time. When you are a group of semi-nomadic tribes moving around and living a harsh life, those things are actually needed to be functional. Most other nomadic tribes also developed similiar traditions and laws. People who take that stuff literally these days are missing the forest for the trees.

I think most reasoned people would infer this. Life thousands of years ago was less forgiving, the Middle East is a crossroads between three continents and when you've got criminal elements in your unit when you're surrounded by hostile tribes sometimes it's simply more efficient to stone them to death as an example. Pretty human logic.

However there's all the justifications for slavery and ideal familial behavior. Lets face it, people you force under pain of death to work for you are efficient, cruelty be damned. Women were considered bargaining chips to further power via familial links so the more children you're squeezing out, the more powerful you'd be. So surprise surprise God favors this type of behavior and codifies laws to make it palatable.

The problem with all this OT stuff is that if you're going to say that God is timeless then you've got to be OK with the idea that God is pro-infanticide, genocide, capital punishment, slavery and other less than ideal behavior. If God showed up on your door right now and said to kill your children, you're bound to follow orders. On faith. Pointing to the NT Jesus stuff doesn't invalidate at one time God was OK with sacking towns in his name and keeping women for yourself. Or harems of women. Or executing your unruly children. Or sending she bears to rip people to shreds.

If he was hung up on homosexuality like so many of his adherents are today then he could have simply told his chosen to nix slavery, capital punishment and extended divine protection to his people. This is the lord of time and space we're talking about. Geography don't mean ***.

As much as free will is cited, God routinely intervenes.

Er, a generator or alternator? I can't think of any that directly generate DC power, most would be 115VAC@400Hz.
Funnily enough, I don't think the generators are considered avionics themselves.

Where in Christianity's doctrine does it tell its followers to force its teaching of gods morality laws in a political way on a government to be made law like Islam does in its commands and sharia?

The 10 commandments? That's already a good start.

You seem to have Christians mixed up with Israelites. Don't worry it happens a lot to the biblically ignorant.

You act like it means nothing, when it actually shows they don't have to enforce insane laws.

I'm with you in doing away with most of the stuff Allah commanded. It's hardly good sense to judge everything he commanded by groups of people who only do some of it though.

you know what they never show you?

god's signature

I have to sign my name if I buy more than twenty dollars worth of burritos from chipotle and yet god can create the end all be all book of every law to govern our lives and he/she what? forgot to sign it?

no watermark, no holy seal, no embossed imprimatur, nothing...

or jesus' for that mater

I double checked the entire new testament but there aren't his initials anywhere indicating he read and approved the final draft, no forward talking about his inspirations...no dedication to his mother...zip

/folds arms
and I won't believe it until one of them shows up and signs my copy

Burning trees tend to give good advice.

Just make sure that if a burning tree or bush is talking to you, there isn't somebody behind it *** with you.

It fooled Moses once, he didn't realize that Joseph was behind that burning bush that one time.

The great thing about religious discussion is that, unlike a lot of other topics, there's a simple solution to find out who was right and who was wrong. The downside is it's hard to say "I told you so!" once you're dead.

someone just told me there wasn't an airplane equivalent to a car's alternator that provides electrical power for the plane....

and I was like...that sounds weird... I am going to have to go look that one up...

but then I forgot about it
Um, there is. It's generally mechanically coupled to the turbine in each engine. As an auxiliary supply, you typically will have something like a ram air turbine available to provide emergency power if you have multi-engine failures.

Maybe I'm thinking more like fixed turbines, but aren't they more analogous to a magneto since they only create DC voltage? We had a turbine genset that had the magneto and an alternator.

Bahamut.Milamber said: »

Funnily enough, I don't think the generators are considered avionics themselves.

Generators and alternators both make AC voltage, the difference is that alternators have built-in rectifiers. SOME generators make DC, but for the most part, they're AC with an external rectifier.

Ours wasn't considered avionics because it was a fixed rig, but we still had an avionics guy do the work on the turbine itself.

Edit: I should clarify that they are both physically connected to the turbine shaft in that application and not driven by thrust.
