Wow this Topic had gone far from the OP. From a post that was meant to be "Believer" to "Believer" meaning the statements of the OPs "God" hold relevant to now a debate on the existence of a god.

Honestly think mods should take a look at this tread and get it back on topic. A debate about the existence of "God"or"Gods" should be in a tread about the existence of God not this one. This is about "Lukewarm Christians"

You don't have to be a Christian to see this had turned into a troll fest. Just because you don't share their beliefs doesn't mean you have to go into a thread and take it of the topic they wanted to discuss.

(On Topic Portion of my post) Your right you first have to clearly define Repentance. (Copy Paste time) In religious contexts it often involves an act of confession to a spiritual elder (such as a monk or priest). This typically includes an admission of guilt, a promise or resolve not to repeat the offense; an attempt to make restitution for the wrong, or in some way to reverse the harmful effects of the wrong where possible.

This seems to be were people get confused. Lot of TV show and even some churches stress "All you have to do is ask for forgiveness" when you explain it like that. To a lot of people that is where you can stop trying. Kinda like a Kid that draws on the wall and says they are sorry then goes to their room and draws there too.

At least that's my 2 cents on it. Just another atheists point of view though.

Conversations evolve and eventually tend to drift in all topics, it's not a trollfest. People call troll everything these days, jesus!

At least you admit you aren't sure. Some people can't be questioned by their "non belief".

To me it really isn't important you can believe whatever you want how you act is far more important.

Even if someone proved to me that I was wrong in my belief that isn't going to change the way I act on a day to day basis.

Honestly their hasn't been any discussion of religion. It has been about God existing or not for a long time.

Instead of does God exist. The question should be why are you religious or why you chose not to follow religion.

Lack of belief is still a belief.

If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.
No it isn't. It's not always a matter of choosing not to decide either.

You're not really a deep thinker are you? How can you not see such an obvious fact? Two sides to every coin.
much more than a lot of people can fathom, it's not an obvious fact, and it's not a coin, there's more than just "you're with us, or against us"

being a sever neocon, I realize that you have a problem comprehending that.

OK I'll try to help you out one last time oh ye of little faith.

An improvable concept, once you've addressed it requires belief. You are born atheist because you had never considered the existence of a God at that point; however once the concept has been brought you your attention there are only two things that can happen:
1) You believe God is real
2) You believe God is not real

A hilariously transparent word game that changes nothing about the meaning of the words.

One could just as easily word it:
1. Not believing there is no god
2. Not believing there is a god

The difference is, as it's used today, Atheism is the lack of religious and deistic opinion. There are also Anti-theist, those would be more what you're talking about, people who strongly believe there is no god.

Also, using the exact same argument endlessly after having been proven wrong over and over by dozens of people using a variety of resources, you're clearly just trying to get a reaction. I'm pretty sure that's against the forum rules.

My biggest question with religion was the similarities.

Personally for me it seemed more of a evolutionary emergence to establish what we know now as religion, a way we evolved to deal with stress and pain.

As far as being 'raised' or lured into a specific religion, i would like to think everyone has the ability to chose for themselves.
But i dont deny the idea if you lived in india, the chances of you being hindu, or Buddhist would be pretty high.

that's like saying, "Not collecting stamps is still a hobby like collecting stamps is."

I really just wanted to type out those lyrics. Amand summed it up best:

Once you're aware of the choice, you have to choose one thing. It's absolutely impossible to remain truly indifferent.

Hey, you just saw avatar. What did you think of it? "I didn't".

You decided you didn't believe. I decided I don't want to collect stamps (now that I'm aware people actually do that nonsense).

You can't prove a negative, you're saying the nature of the universe makes ambiguity of thought impossible, it's not.

I don't "believe" in Obama so therefore he doesn't exist. I'm a Atheist Obama supporter.

Once I stop believing I will stop existing. It's like that Matrix movie I never watched.

No, I understand the language just fine. I was illistrating 2 points.

1. the choice to bold the positive statement over the negative one

2. the choice to use the word "disbelief" as it implies that someone is choosing to ignore the truth.

There are some very smart Christians who design these kinds of logical arguments to manipulate stupid people. And people like you and Amand repeat them like they have some merit, they don't.

I am not repeating anything. And what doesn't have merit in what I said? I stated truth. Disprove my statements if you think it is rubbish. You can't. For people that claim to believe in logic you seem to be incapable of it.

Edit: was this just a backhanded compliment and you calling me smart? Aww shucks Jassik. *blush*
