in my opinion it does not matter if he was or was not a celebrity. Someone lost their life, if it was someone who wasn't famous, the grieving would be on a much smaller scale. But to see people making jokes about it is what really makes me want to vomit, and me actually laughing once or twice makes me want to bury myself in a hole...

Well, to clarify. The phrase has traditionally been "I could not care less." It has been misspoken recently as many people say "I could care less". However if one were to say "I could care lees" with some notion of sarcasm, the tradition idea and intent of the statement would still work.
So clearly people aren't stupid and butchering the English language, but instead are so adept at the delivery of sarcasm that we must just be missing it.
