I've said it a million times, but the entire history of society is smart people helping dumb people survive.

Almost.

It's people that believe they are smarter than everyone else trying to force other people to believe the same things they do.

You have to keep in mind that almost nothing we once believed and held to be true in antiquity has survived the harsh reality of experience.

"Nothing is true, everything is permitted."

We're all idiots, bumbling around trying to understand the unknowable. Making someone believe you have the answers is a con.

Nearly everyone has the same opportunity available to get care in this country, the caveat of as "long as they can afford it" does not constitute inequality. You continue to preach the fantasy of those who cannot pay should still get the best care possible because of your perverted concept of inequality. No one cries unfairness at the fact that not everyone has the same cell phone or cell service, you get service based on what you put in, we all accept that. We don't view that system as a "*** em" mentality, but healthcare is somehow an exception just because you say so.
Nobody is saying that everybody should get the best care possible, but rather that everyone should be able to get care period. And a cell phone is a dumb comparison. How many people have died because they couldn't get a phone?

But everyone does get healthcare, regardless of affordability. How well you are treated depends on how much money you put into the system. This was long before Obamacare.

Obamacare is supposed to make healthcare affordable (hint: The Patent Protection and Affordable Care Act). It does nothing to the sort, just increases prices which increases the end cost I have to pay if I get sick. I am now double-paying into the healthcare system by my taxes get put into somebody else's care and I still have to pay for my own healthcare!

But that is "fair" because I have a job and can "afford" it. Maybe that is what "affordable" is supposed to mean on PPACA. If you can afford it, you have to pay for it multiple times!

What are all these liberals gonna do when younger people look at the higher premiums, and ridiculous deductibles and decide they don't want to shell up to and over 10k or more every year before they get coverage? Do they really think 20 somethings are gonna rush in to sign up, do their duty and overpay even more so that older people can have more reasonable care?

I'm in my 20's... have great coverage and don't pay anywhere near that amount of money... hell... even If I paid the portion that my company puts in for me it wouldn't be that much lol... My plan for next year will actually be cheaper than it was this year...

Edit: In any case... I'll be interested to see how this will affect the medical profession and coverage going forward though...

The bronze, silver and gold plans ranged from $202 a month to $586 a month. I searched just for myself, not family coverage. The story going forward is going to be that the low-cost plans are garbage. Plan after plan had $5,000 and $6,000 deductibles before they pay a penny in benefits, and even then you’d still be on the hook for 40% of your bill.

Sorry, 7.5k to 8.5k in premiums and deductibles...

Random old guy goes looking for the most terrible plans and finds some. Also does not factor in his economic status or the insurance subsidies that are available to make better plans affordable.

Fascinating. Tell us more.

If the 33-year-old single father wants the same level of coverage next year as what he has now with the same insurer and the same network of doctors and hospitals, his monthly premium of $233 will more than double. If he wants to keep his monthly payments in check, the Carpentersville resident is looking at an annual deductible for himself and his 7-year-old daughter of $12,700, a more than threefold increase from $3,500 today.

So the ~16M people who purchase health insurance solo are taking a hit, and over half of those people are eligible for subsidies. I fail to see where ~6-8M people paying more means that 50M+ people shouldn't be able to even buy health insurance, and why the other 250M+ people who are mostly unaffected should care.

How many articles are being written and referenced about the people who see literally no change in their insurance or the families spared from bankruptcy because they are now able to get health insurance?

But, by all means, let's not see what the changes are actually going to do, let's just find a small minority of the population who may have to make some changes and hop on the reactionary soapbox. In a year I'm sure they'll forget to write a million articles about the massive refunds those people are entitled to.

There are no stories about lower costs because they don't really exist.....

Read the full report here

These are just the premium cost changes, this doesn't even begin to go into the deductible increases.

Oh and the 250 million should care because they're the ones paying for those subsidies! If you want to continue to stick your fingers in your ears you can do so easily by ignoring the thread.

So the costs are lower when you get a subsidy? Who knew? Too bad millions won't get the subsidy.

Sorry Pleebo, you still can't keep your plan if you like it and it doesn't lower everyone's premiums by 2500 bucks like Obama said.

The point was that the chart (and "study" in general) is dishonest for not accounting for subsidies and for not disclosing the fact that they don't account for them in their super-duper model. Now why would the Heritage Foundation want to misrepresent their numbers? Hmmm, beats me!
