Just about all of the "yellow fizzy American beers" are running the "ice cold" thing as an advertising strategy these days. Coors, Budweiser, Michelob, etc.
I'm more of a scotch, brandy, whiskey guy myself. Straight up. No fruity mixed drink crap -- that's for women and gay men. (No offense, LGBT thread.) If I'm going to be drinking I usually don't *** around.

I have yet to try Sam Adams. I might have to give them a try despite being American. Then again Kona and Big Sky brewery are American and I wuv those. Although I'll have to do my best not to picture this when I grab some.

The only non micro beers I like from the states are Sam Adams, which is more quality than American beers could ever dream of being. And on the cheap side Yuengling, because it isn't a "yellow fizzy" beer as you referenced.
And hey I will admit the companies that advertise cold, do better than natty light. They pertty much explain how drunk you will get off their cheap *** beer, using nattyisms
IPAs vary brewery to brewery. Although generally they tend to be quite bitter, I have had a few with remarkable flavor but smooth drinkability without that bleh on your tongue feeling after having a sip or two.

Then I soon learned that beer is wonderful and tasty, and gives me a nice buzz mellowed out through several drinks rather than being wasted after several shots.

Me too, well, always loved Guinness. As I get OLDer, have children now, get up at 6am, bla bla... a nice beer or glass of wine has replaced jell-o shots and jager bombs ^^
