This is what made FF8 great, if you ask me. Everyone hated that game but I loved the fact that they had so many hidden areas scattered around that you never had to go to, but were fun to explore nonetheless. Edit: And no I'm not biased by my FF8 avatar.

Oh I'm glad somebody said this, again whats with the corridors, its just corridor after corridor. And you can't even go exploring for awesome items and be rewarded for putting in the effort to find them.

Because RPG's are becoming more fast paced and turn-based is slow NES/Playstation ***. The competition is changing their combat systems and SE is keeping up.

Not really, how does speeding up the tempo of a battle system make it any better? The only thing SE have accomplished by changing /advance gameplay? Final Fantasy is defined by random battles and turned based fighting, and by changing it they have just pushed away many loyal players of the series.

Games in every aspect of games are getting faster paced, not just RPG. I also doubt FF lost nearly as many followers as you exaggerate. If they do it's only because people are frustrated and cant handle trying to multi-task job changes, selecting attacks, and focusing on what the enemy is doing at the pace it goes.

It has an added effect if your server fails at besieged. If you equip it before you get sanction, you get the highest imperial standing possible. It has something to do with what "rank" your server is in terms of winning besieged.

I don't believe you >.>

No I got bored rather quickly playing older RPG's with the slow pace, it's not a challenge.

I hate slow-paced fights, too. Watching each and every animation. That's why I love X-2. Only super uber attacks from enemies would take awhile. Besides that you can attack while someone else is attacking. It does add more challenge when the fights are faster - makes you have to think quicker. I have NO idea how people can play Final Fantasies on "Wait Mode." Oh man, talk about mad easy...

I think you're missing the point. RPGs aren't FPS games. They're not designed to rely on twitch reactions. They're a game genre that requires you to think.

I only recall Mario and games of that nature. No one in my area played Final Fantasy that young - it's near-impossible because of how complex RPGs are.

I realize that, but I prefer to have to think faster, not just sit there and map out an entire fight while having the game paused. That's not fun at all. The only thing that keeps me from really like FFX a lot is because it wasn't ATB. I need ATB in my RPGs.

You probably played them after the fact. While everyone else played them growing up while still in school and developing motor/reading skills and hand/eye coordination. Were the games hard? Not really. Were they hard for a kid in elementary school? Probably.

Final Fantasy gave kids a good story so they didn't have to have a good imagination. It's become nostalgia and reminiscing the good times as kids.
I played them growing up, yeah they have nostalgia but I can't sit down and play them for 8hrs straight like I used to. I just get bored.

I do agree that RPGs don't possess the same level of difficulty that they used to, but you can't increase the difficulty of an RPG by speeding it up. That's like adding car crashes and explosions to monopoly. Wrong genre.

I did at least. My dad had NES and SNES with FF1 and FF2 and FF3. I couldn't beat FF1 until I was like in 5th grade, but I beat FF2 and I looooooooved FF3 when I was like 10 years old.

Hm, I wasn't really exposed to video games that young except for shooters that my dad played.

Exactly.

13 requires you to think. You have to plan ahead for every battle and during each battle. But it also makes you have to be able to react, which you never had to do in any other FF and I think it's more challenging because of that, which I find enjoyable.

Don't get me wrong - I don't approve of the FFXIII battle system at all. I was just able to tolerate it. I hope they just go back to the normal ATB for the next one.

And you can't tell me Monopoly wouldn't kick more *** with explosions...

Lol, might as well make Monopoly into a hack-and-slash.

Like when they made FF7 into a FPS because people wanted it to be more fast paced. Remember how well that turned out?
