Well it;s funny how America is so diet crazy and yet we allow horrid excuses for food. I guess many just take what we can get.

The American diet causes diabetes, cancer, obesity, crone's disease ... and on and on. And we say, oh but if we eat THIS prepackaged, "low calorie", low carb meal we are being good to our body.

Or how about the commercial for a "healthy" breakfast cereal showing the happy workers happily making your breakfast cereal wearing hard hats, lab coats and safety goggles. Is that shocking to anyone else? It didn;t occur to the kellog company that ok'd the commercial to sell their product that hardhats & labcoat isn't typical breakfast making attire.

What really bothers me is how organic food is significantly more expensive than conventional preservative laced foods are. You would think it would be cheaper to grow your vegetables, fruits, grains and meat naturally instead of intentionally adding ***only a chemist would know or know how to pronounce for that matter.

I'm not one to delve into conspiracy theories, but there is definitely something up when unhealthy food that requires more hormones/chemicals/preservatives is cheaper than healthy food made through cheaper means to produce...

A good mix of all actually. However the most important would be the latter.

Well, for one thing it's easier to mass produce and preserve ~

It makes perfect sense IMO

Just a thought, but in my opinion I think companies are capitalizing on the given fact that naturally produced foods are healthier than what is normally out there for us.

Why have the healthy stuff be the cheap standard when you can put a stamp on it that says "This is better for you!" and double/triple the cost? It's all about the money in the end =/

The issue with food grown in huge quantities, picked early, packaged then shipped all over the us is serious.

For starters. when you grow food in mass quantities you cannot account for the single plant. Things like the neighbor, who mass produces meat, may not realized their manure lagoon is seeping into your vegetable crop and neither may you, so look out! Ekolai outbreak!

When these companies mass produced food, out of greed mind you, they needed a cheap way to keep their plants in a controlled environment. Enter pesticides and radioactive fertilizer. (Polonium-B)

These are just a few issues that arise when mass producing vegetables.

Then we get to the insane amount of packaging materials that are "required" to ship "fresh" vegetables across the country.

How about our practices? Pick them before they are ready and flash them with gamma rays to make them ripen very quickly.

Then we get into the amounts of petroleum required to ship our products around the country or world which also involve the carbon emmisions.

In the end you are left with food that is sub par, not fresh, covered in pesticide residue and caused quite a bit of pollution to get to your store.

And in this industry standards have changed. Laws have been created and bent to allow these companies to do this cheaper.

Did you know there is an ACCEPTABLE AMOUNT OF MOTOR OIL ALLOWED in canned products. The machines they use to create these foods and package them all use motor oil and leak/leech it into everything naturally. Why? Well it would cost too much to produce these foods on such a large scale.

Now one more thing. I liken this to our body creating blood cells. When our body moves along normally it creates blood cells fine. It also creates mutated blood cells, but at the normal rate our white cells see them and eat them up. It's happening right now inside of you. But when there is trauma and stress induced and our body starts pumping out more blood cells than normal there is more chance of mutations and mutated cells get past and end up clogging blood vessels causing tumors and such. I liken this to growing food in large quantities. When you are concentrating on a few things you will do a good job with them, but when you have millions you are more likely to miss things.

These are some of the main reasons why we should buy fresh, local produce and local organic meat.

Best bet is to simply grow your own produce. Or at least supplement your typical groceries purchased with a home garden. It can make a big difference.

Reminds me of this Discovery documentary on essentially what would happen if we completely ran out of every drop of oil on this planet.

Was pretty scary ***, but after a few years of chaos and death, we aren't completely screwed. Basically required strict practices of transportation and self sustaining practices such as the ones we just mentioned. Grow some of your own food, carry your own weight instead of feeding a growing dependency on what we are quickly running out of.
