Arlington/Plano suburban "cowboys" (who were very vocal about open carry) and the miscreants stationed at Fort Hood (this is why people joke about Killeen, BTW). What a combo!
Not all, but the flunkies of the nation who are stationed at Fort Hood are the ones who pick fights with and unabashedly stalk people on 6th. QUICK! Duck into the crowd or make like a chalkboard!
EDIT: Some are absolute delights of people when they drunkenly vomit "Sandnigger!" at non-practicing Hindu buddies before actually vomiting.

I found the event intriguing in that even though it would lead to a polarizing argument about gun control, it was a case where an armed individual with good intents met a fatal end.
When people say if everybody had guns this stuff wouldn't happen... Sure in a theoretical vacuum. Outside of that, the threat of mutually assured self destruction only seems to work in nuclear stalemates.

Yeah, I thought you were trying to debunk the "good guy versus bad guy with a gun" claptrap.
Just giving you the scoop on the overall culture when they let the animals out of the pen. A grit-your-teeth-grin doesn't satiate the impulse to give them a serving tray to the side of the head sometimes. I would hope things have changed, but I honestly doubt it.
EDIT: Favorite go-to...Testing your reaction by jokingly blathering on about it's your "patriotic duty" to hook-up with them because they served "X" amount of terms overseas.

It's not like they patrol the street and bother us in any way.
America needs to reduce their caretaking of them though, so that they spend more in German shops and not everything in their closed towns that cannot be called garrisons anymore.
I wouldn't mind more presence from Brittish, Italian, French or Dutch military as well. They are our friends nowdays and foreign extra-money is always welcomed.
From a military perspective it's better to have them here with important bases than not. With the changes in our both populations the bonds will grow weaker in the future. Close coorperations like those will make it more likely that we stay allies. Noone really wants to be your enemies.
The only bothering point is Ramstein. There were discussion wether it's a launching point for your drone-war which would go against our constitution. I don't think it is though. It's basically just transmitting signals from America to the destination area. It should not have much influence on our threat level for terrorists.
I want to make clear,I am against the usage of armed drones in non-war zones and view such actions as breaking international law.
