Girlboy, I know you've been "sticking it out" for the family's sake, but since you've already developed connections with GCs, have you thought about maybe trying to go the PM assistant route? Are you familiar with Penta or Vista?
I was also wondering if your parents claimed HUB status under your mom's name. I don't know how stringent they are in OK, there's a quota that General Contractors here have to meet on state/municipal projects here as far as offering bids to HUBs. With how fickle your end is, it would be something for your parents to consider to compete when work gets sparse (especially since you've mentioned you guys get hard-up sometimes).
