I miss the old days of the history channel when you could take a bunch of bong rips and watch a documentary on Andrew Jackson for 2 hours. Good old college days.

I don't think the History Channel has dealt in history for maybe fifteen years or so.

Yeah, that's sort of what I'm on about.

I think the last time I watched it was when I had to have a sleep study done and it was History Channel or reruns of The Big Bang Theory and I'd have watched the muted jury deliberations on a jaywalking appeal before I watched TBBT. At the time they were sort of dipping their toes into the ridiculous with alternate history theories about the Romans. IIRC. I dunno, I was on some prescribed drugs at the time.

Ugh. These are the same *** people who call CYS on parents because the parents had the audacity to let the kids play outside unobserved in what is now called "free range parenting," but what used to be just called "parenting."

Edit: Tangentially related, Zah, that unfortunate avatar of yours is seriously starting to scar my psyche. That poor *** dog has to exist. Isn't that punishment enough for him?

She locked him in her garage? Is there no law against this? Or at least some "hey, I think I have your dog" etiquette?

Free-roaming dogs are generally allowed to be considered "dangerous" and she's probably within her "right." Much like the KKK is within their "rights" to be safe from recompense, even though, you know. They advocate trash.

Some people don't like common sense or courtesy. Snide comments aside about "hurr hurr yeah (insert political party you don't like here)," some people are real nibshit pieces of ***who can't mind their own business or give you the time of day and their first instinct is to ruin someone else's fun since they're not having any of their own.

I'm sorry. Tot #1 and I love it. As much as I liked the annual ugliest dog competition before hand, this dog makes him howl with laughter at the drop of a hat, much to the hubby's contempt for our stupid chuckles at the expense of this dog. This dog has that "laughter is infectious" appeal.

Mos, if you have ever had the misfortune of seeing two dogs stuck together post-coitus, it might change your mind about getting his bits tampered with. That has got to be the most pathetic sight in the animal kingdom, especially when they're butt-to-butt and one is trying to sit or lay down. Then the horrible thought of "Can that happen to humans?!?" passes.

Thank you, internet, for answering the dumbest of questions that skip through my synapses.

My brother-in-law's family has one of those little Mexican rodent dogs (not the Chihuahua, the actual rat-looking ones without hair). I'm as nice as I can be to it because that poor thing has to exist like that.

I was actually reading an article about the downsides of pure breads today and this was in there...(luckily sans images...)

...yeah. Now imagine the female taking off after the act and tearing the poor guy's *** off.

Because that can happen.

Not a fan of chihuahuas either. I forgot which comedian said it but "ear and eyeball caddy" is on the money.

That happens?!? Hmmm...You learn something new every day. Here's to being bipedal!

What's funny about those microchips, here at least, you have to call the company and pay an additional monthly or yearly fee to have it activated.

And it serves as a reminder that no matter how bad your day can be, it can't get worse than that.

Well, from what I remember, and this was over five years ago, there was one incident where a couple was admitted for this in the UK (I think) around mid-century. After reading about it, I wondered how many people just wait it out in lieu of public humiliation.

Well, a couple years after, I kept one of the offspring and he tried to jump the fence and got his nads caught. Poor Cletus (actual name) never tried jumping the fence again.

That poor dog. That's a great name for a bloodhound.

Side Note: I kind of want a bloodhound. We've been looking at pointers and labs lately.

This has to be one of the weirdest conversations in here in the past couple of years.

Just toss him in the microwave for about 10sec. Should take care of that microchip.

Our male was named Fletch after the Chevy Chase movie. We got pick of the litter.

I had a black lab that was closer to my child than a pet. Pretty dogs. Wouldn't mind having a "silver" lab at some point but I'm not really looking for a pet atm.

When/if I finally get settled in a house and get it sorted I'll probably be picking up a pet if the timing feels right at that point.

My wife's not a big dog person but she knows I am and is okay with it, largely.

Probably looking at the rescue/mutt route myself unless I can find a reputable breeder for the breed I'd want who cares more about the dog's well being than the credentials. Pure breads can be great but they're expensive and I don't want to potentially perpetuate the cycle of inbreeding. My parents found a good place like that for Westies but I don't think I'll be getting a terrier myself. At least not a Westie.

Is everything with the house finally finalized?

If you can find a mutt with the good characteristics of their primary breed that's a diamond in the rough. We've always had labs, but the personality of a pointer might be our speed right now, from what I've read.

Not that quizzes mean much, but sometimes rescue organizations and shelters have those linked.
