Guys, I think Volk's gone from "frequent references," to "Rammie-level-Firefly or Futurama" level all the way up to "autistic-level perseveration" when it comes to The Breakfast Club this week.

And it's all_my_fault.

The Breakfast Club

Potentially the most overrated movie of that decade.

Not bad! I liked it well enough, just... way, way overrated.

Meh...I agree, but I'll admit I liked the John Hughes stuff when I discovered it for the sake of the "team 80's kid" novelty in middle school.

Actually, I think the interest in teen movies languished when I hit high school.

EDIT: My mom did give me 'Sixteen Candles' on my thirteenth birthday since it came out my birth year.

Anyone who were to say that about The Big Lebowski would be instantly cut from my life.

It's quality is overrated to be sure, though I'd say that it's cultural and nostalgic impact are quite hard to overstate.

But the most overrated movie of that decade? Not by a long shot.

The most overrated movie of the 80s argument begins and ends with Scarface.

And right on cue, the championship belt holder from that decade.

And again, I liked both movies! But I know multiple people who treat The Big Lebowski like a treatise on how they should live their life, and that's, uh, not good.

I will concede that this is an excellent argument. I think I'm sticking with Breakfast Club just because it has demographic appeal beyond "pissed off teenage guys", but either one of them could win and that'd be okay.

I'm sorry Rooks, but you must be cut from my life now. I don't want to do it, but it's been a long day, and I hate the *** Eagles man.

I apologize for the state of disarray here in NI......

Rooks changed how blocking works and we had a block party.

then it was just me and him for a while and things got a little weird...

...were you alive in the 90s? Because, I mean. There were a lot of *** awful movies that did so well and won so many awards. Your point is well taken, but...I mean, I'm a big Tarintino fan, but pretty much all of his movies (except maybe Django Unchained) are far overrated. Reservoir Dogs especially.

Then you have Forest Gump...The Usual Suspects...Fight Club...all good, but far too "beloved"...

But ultimately, I'll just leave this here...

And Rooks' words are prophetic.

*** idiotic movie with an idiotic romanticized theme of violent criminal scum and at least two generations of manboys quoting it like it's some brilliant blueprint to live by.

Edit: Which reminds me, Wall Street is very high on the list of overrated 80s movies also.

It's true though. People do it backwards and wonder why they're poor. If you get the woman first, you'll never make any money. If you get the power first, you'll become corrupt. So the only logical way to do it is, money, power, then woman.

Huh, I thought Lebowski was 2000's. 1998? Really? That does alter the algebra.

Not sure what the 90's winner is, then. Like you said, there's a raftload of poop out there. Probably going with Forrest Gump.

Twilight easily has to top the list for the 00s/10s for me, with the entire Harry Potter franchise following.

Haven't seen either series.

I'm really racking my brain over what movie definitively stuck out, to me, in that decade. Tough.
