Pennsylvania's all-time recorded low was -42 in 1905 in Smethport, which is about 40 minutes away from where I grew up (it's the county seat of my home county).
I'm from a town that's higher in elevation nearby.
You can go ahead and make the assumption that it gets colder in my hometown. Hence our classic moniker, "The Icebox of Pennsylvania".
But really, it's awesome. It's so cold your nose can't run, because it does a little bit and then freezes to your lip.

I wasn't banished there. My ancestors were hearty Swedish, Irish, and Germanic Tribe descendants. We went there by choice! Bring on the ice and snow!
