The job is what you do, not who you are. It's just temporary and this should give you perspective. Now when you get stressed about stuff at work, remember you're just there to get food and stuff. The stuff you're stressing over is just more fodder for the dumpster pile.

I like that.

Ugh this day is going so sloooowly. And I'm working almost entirely with paper today instead of my normal electronic documents and it's infinitely worse than electronic documents.

BUT. Half a day of work with my session for new ink in the afternoon. Very excited.

I looked into burning my name into the sky... it's an awful lot of hard work.....

who do we remember from history? alexander the great? gehngis khan? hitler? stalin?

What's the threshold? you gotta kill... what?... thirty million people to get your name in a history book anyone will read a thousand years from now?

If you want to make the news... you gotta light the fuse.

or stand back and watch the show...

BTW, when we have a music throw-down, all it does is remind me of how shitty music is now.

You just need to look in the right places.

I generally reccomend Europe. Lots of good stuff coming out of Scandinavia and the nearby countries these days.

Of course, if you're looking for something more American (country, blues, jazz), it's a bit harder.

this is the plan I concocted yesterday:

I want to rip-off these guys Ferdinand Cheval & Jim Bishop

Build like a football stadium sized monstrosity just for the sake of leaving something behind. just massive, almost maze like, with all kinds of sculptures that will have people leaving think "wtf were those guys on?"

my buddy is a professor of art, specializing in 'art installations' & we already have some land, so we just need to beg people for some concrete & rebar money. I won't beg you guys, naturally.

so that's the plan for now.

I'd love to do something similar with a few of my college friends. I was lucky enough to go to school and fall in with some ridiculously talented artists and musicians. I would kill to be able to get together with them and make some sort of lasting contribution to the landscape.

It's more anything instrumental and unsynthesized.

Kind of wish I would have stuck with guitar in my teens and piano from childhood on sometimes.

On it!

I think a catbaboon, a meowpig and a antlered-oragutan should keep everyone at bay.

If you're up for some fantasy-soundtrack-sounding stuff of a Celtic/Norse variety, look into Antti Marktikainen and Adrian Von Ziegler. I've just picked them up in the past couple of days and I'm really enjoying it. Great background music for work and writing, in my case.

Again, as far as more pop/rock-related current stuff...that's a bit more difficult. "Overproduced" is my general feeling on albums even by bands I love these days. In a country/bluesy vein a few names that I've come across recently on Pandora/Spotify that I enjoy are Maragold and Saint Jude.

Similarly, if you're on Spotify search for a playlist called "Funky, Heavy, Bluesy". It's got some good stuff. It's in the Jazz/Blues discovery tab.

You know, I get a feeling kind of like that any time I pass a graveyard. I always look at the tombstones and think to myself, "How many people in there have been forgotten entirely? Their children and children's children are gone or have simply forgotten. They lived, they died, and the world moved on."

*sips tea*
And here I sit, in an office filled with boxes, papers, and dust.

*sips tea*
And here I will remain.
