My German has fallen so far off the scale. On the Greek thread yesterday, a guy posted a German article. I had to read through it about four times then use the translate feature to double check myself. My German is crap now.
That's how my Ukrainian is now, Zahrah, so I know what you mean. I can understand it perfectly when spoken to, but I can't write/talk (and sometimes even read) it well.

It's really bad when I'm speaking Spanish to someone. If I miss a word, my brain defaults to German for the replacement word, and it leaves both of us going WTF?

Zahrah lol I do that too. Like my grandma would be speaking Ukrainian and my mind would automatically reply in Japanese. I would catch myself and think "DAMNIT! Not again"

LOL! I do the same. When I was seventeen, my cousins and I went to Amsterdam for New Years, unbeknownst to the parentals. My cousins and their friends claimed I was speaking Deutsch-lish while under the influence. Probably would be doing the same now.
