Wiki isn't always right. Use kida's. Also just cause you "can" catch something doesn't mean you should. Often those weird random not recommend ones have such a low bite rate its insane

Also get lu shang's it will help alot skilling up past say 50-60. And the gp body is awesome for lowering bite rate of items

So, assuming my math is correct: At my current level with my typical gear skill up gear (SAM AF), I will have about 490 DEF. This includes Cocoon, Taco, and Prot IV.

There is something seriously messed if thats all you have. I mean lets saying you get 75% from cocoon and taco last so thats 280 def -55 for protect. Thats only 225 def from just gear. Though I think taco is determined after cocoon so maybe even less. Remember my rdm easily hits 700def solo with lots of -dmg gear

I want the skill+2 shoes, Apron, and said key item. I'm one rank up, and 65k GP from the shoes.
I'd get shoes last. +skill does next to nothing in fishing

Wearing Solely Samurai Artifact Armor and being level 62, it doesn't sound all that wrong to me.
For equation purposes my DEF (SAM AF onry) is 243.
Cocoon is +50%
Taco is +25%
Prot IV is +55Def
Unless I need to level BLU past 8 or Blue Magic has to be a certain level, I will assume that Cocoon is always straight 50%. If this effects potency, then I need to skill up Blue Magic, and I guess level BLU to 37 ; ;
Oh lol lvl 62 I guess that makes more sense. And no its straight +50%. That being said you get more def and stats out of being fully lvld and can equip a whole bunch more vit/agi not to mention resist sleep and auto regen

None of which will probably matter since I don't have an outside heal/buffer XD

Also, how often would I be touched with capped and fully merited Evasion and Parry? Part of the reason I'm doing this is cause I don't like to be touched. (I was very disappointed when I capped evasion and still got hit constantly)
That's highly dependent on the mob and gear really. Though parrying seems to be straight amount from the testing I've seen. I'd look that up if I were you.

Likewise, a THF with 276 EVA skill will evade roughly 35% of a merit mob's attacks.
That being said, you will not hit (or evade) often without gear toward what you're trying to accomplish.

From what I've been led to believe, 1 EVA is approximately equal to 1.25 EVA skill, because it's higher up in the formula.
That being said, 10 EVA is roughly 5% evade rate and 10 EVA skill is roughly 6.25% evade rate.

Think you got that backwards especially since you put evasion skill as having more to evade rate later on. Also +evasion has soft caps as far as I've heard while skill doesn't

Fixed. Lol. And yeah, that was a typo.
Using the rough estimates given and whatever Evasion gear I can remember wearing... I would have had about a 56% evasion rate v. the example merit mob.
I had hoped that having an A+ evasion would make me nearly untouchable... Still, these rough estimates do explain why I was being hit more than I'd like to.
