I make all my characters short for that very reason, lol.
You sign on your Playstation Network ID (can be created in the main menu of the PSP). There's a little slider on the top of your PSP that says WLAN. Then just sign on when you press Online in the main menu of PSP2. I honestly don't recommend rolling with random people. Just PM/IM me if you want to play and we'll just kick ***. I recommend (yeah I use that word a lot, big whoop WANT TO FIGHT ABOUT IT?!) finishing the story mode first and beating each Open Mission at least once (can do it on C - lowest rank) to unlock other Open Missions so when we do play together we can do anything we want. It's pretty straight forward though.

The only thing you can do wrong in PSP2 is use neutral weapons. That's the absolute only thing I frown upon. That's like a Drg using AF because it looks cool. No, you're just being lazy. Don't be a loldrg in this game Eli!

Weapon choice: Use whatever the hell you want except longswords. As cool as they may look, they're slow compared to just about any other weapon. The whip is cool for crowd control, but I wouldn't use it on a boss or something. Good for hitting multiple spots but fairly weak. Nice status effects though.
Weapon grinding: It's pretty cheap to grind weapons (upgrade) that are rank C and B, but A+ can get pricey. Then you start thinking about what you want to improve. All the good ***are S rank stuff so you really don't have to worry too much about it until then.
Weapon elements: It's pretty simple.
- Fire <-> Ice
- Ground <-> Lightning
- Light <-> Dark
- Green = Neutral = ***.
You would use a Ground weapon on a lightning enemy (will be displayed next to their name) and you'd use lightning armor against a lightning enemy. You have a weapon pallete as well as an armor one. It's wise to swap according to the enemies you're fighting, but they may have mixed elements in the group.
For example, you run into 5 enemies. Some are ice and some are fire. Now if you use ice armor, you'll take less from the ice peoples (depending on the percent) but more from the fire peeps. It's up to you to decide whether you want to just use another element and take normal damage or swap like nuts in that said fight. (I use another element, unless it's one big fire enemy and then a bunch of small ice, then I'll use fire armor)
Open Missions: After completing a chapter in the story, new Open Missions will be available. Finish them all before progressing with the story. You'll thank me later. Just do rank C to blaze through if you don't feel like a challenge at the time, but it's also a good way to level up for the up-coming story missions.
Drops: Just pick up anything. If you get full and something else can be purchased, either send an item in your inventory to your Shared Storage (will be an option in the menu) or just drop the cheapest item. If you don't need it, just save it and sell it after the mission. That meseta adds up, yo.
Clothes: Go nuts. I like playing dress-up, too. :D
Trade Items: You'll get a bunch of stuff like Photon Drops and stuff from mission. Keep them. They're used for Trade Missions to get cool stuff. Useful...sometimes. But really cool.
That's all I can think of for now.

Oh! Don't ever enter a mission where mobs are higher than 5+ your current level. It's not easy when soloing for a beginner. I can't even handle 10+.
Story missions adjust to your level, but Open Missions will say "Enemies +75" meaning they'll all be about Lv75, give or take a few levels.

Im gonna be creating a character forever, i really have no idea what to pick..
My main is a female Cast, aka Caseal.
I recommend a Human or Cast. Newman is only good for an all-out Force and a Beast is only good for an all-out Hunter. Even then, I'd rather have a Cast since accuracy becomes a big deal at higher levels where we'll be farming mobs that are higher leveled than us. You get all the cool clothes/hair once you progress in the story. You can change your character around any time you want, it'll just cost. Not like XI where once you select "Okay" you're stuck with that.
