I really hope they'll eventually give us an "undo" option for our augments so we can at least keep our original piece of equipment to resell and/or trade when we don't need it anymore, or re-augment until we get something halfway decent to our liking.

Until that happens, I wouldn't go too crazy with the FoV style method of augmenting unless you can afford to dish out the gil to rebuy gear for failed results.

I'm fairly sure SE won't give us the option to remove augments, as this seems partially like a method to stimulate crafting (by removing the pieces from circulation.) But being able to re-augment gear, even if only up to five times like the quest they're introducing, would be nice. Or, you know, removing the chances of gear getting detrimental augments.

True. I forgot to consider it probably urges crafters to go nuts the more people that constantly purchase a particular piece to re-augment over and over til they get something they like.

However, that 5 time re-augment should apply to the FoV style of augmenting as well. If you can't get something decent within 5 attempts then you can /toss and try again or just live with it.

I doubt they'll ever do that. However I wish they'd give you the option to take the gear with or without the augments. I really don't see how that would be a bad thing. I wasn't expecting OMGWTF pwn stuff, however I was expecting a system where it wouldn't be a gamble where it could do more harm than good for your equipment.

As mentioned before, the take it or drop it method they got now highly encourages crafters in almost every field, so that kind of stimulation will very unlikely be adjusted. However, it would be nice to let you retry for a fresh augment at least 3 times til you get something at least halfway decent. If not then I guess you /toss and buy/try again.

Maybe it's just me but I haven't seen this encourage crafting at all. Since I haven't seen anyone wear or even try augmenting gear.

The retry idea would be nice also.

I suppose one bad result discouraged thousands on a grand scale. Personally I think the potential is amazing if you got the gil and dedication to make it work out.

I think I once saw Drone Earrings with like 2 r.acc and 3 r.atk on it. That is like pure sex for RNG & COR.

I guess so, however how random it is is what really killed it. Personally I think your retry idea would bring life back to it, or at least give you multiple choices from the coffer so if you're displeased with one set of augments you can see what the others are then make up your mind.

I augment just about any piece of gear that I can that's under ~30-50k for the lvl 50 and under stuff. And then will augment more items as they raise the cap. No, I'm not going to augment something like a PCC, Hauby+1, or Hagun... But, I 'am' willing to gamble with fairly cheap eq.

There are a decent number of people that have a piece or so of augmented gear. Problem is, most gear people where endgame are higher than level 50. I have a life belt with +1 Dex -1 Vit -1 Agi and a decent amount lightning resist. Its not amazing, but for a DRG its pretty decent because Dex is a mod for Penta Thrust. I would only really ever have to get a new one if I decided to do PLD. If you look around enough, you will find people with augmented gear.

Yeah, my best augments from the FoV augs were a Str+1 on a Kotetsu, a Str+1 Vit+1 on a Swordbelt +1, an Evasion +2 on a Purple Belt, and a Dex+1 and Resist Stun +2 on a Power Gi.
