I wasn't going to go anywhere beyond the Lightning Trollface on the first page, until I saw this. What is so wrong with the idea of companies doing whatever they please or whatever makes them happy, especially with a feature that is optional to begin with? Hell, it already has struck some excitement into FF fans alike. As another poster said, everyone went into an outrage about Serah in the N7 suit promo for FF13-2, and then no one gave a flying *** afterward. It will no doubt be the same way with FF13-3, especially if people take their godddamn nostalgia goggles off and be a little more open-minded.

Ever since Final Fantasy 7 was deemed a classic, all it really has done is bring out the elitism in JRPG fans, always trying to pressure Square-Enix into making the next Final Fantasy that lives up to FF7's standards, which the company never sought out to do anyway. And they only can do so much to please the fanbase because of it. They can do whatever they want as far as I'm concerned, especially since next-gen Final Fantasy looks very promising.

The basis for the hatred towards Lightning as "a weak character" is unfounded and highly subjective, despite how Lightning and Cloud act very identical with some varying personality traits unique to themselves (and I don't understand how this is called out as a double standard yet). People need to learn go beyond her weaknesses, stoic dialogue and mannerisms...she's just as qualified as the rest of the Stars of the Franchise.

If you don't like this costume to go with your pre-order, no one's forcing you to use it. No one's forcing you to buy this game either. All you're really doing is just finding excuses to give a damn before you decide to leave it completely. So just do it already. It's like I say sometimes: "Indifference makes all the difference."

I really dislike these kind of commercial things, but the mad in here is excessive.

Something I'm really mad about at SE is the lack of localization for FF0...you guys say Square doesn't make good FF anymore, but that one is just amazing and the kind of game I think about when picturing a FF title.

I agree with you. Square is churning out ***and stupid decisions lately. If re-re-re doing ffxiv isn't what breaks SE, re-re-re doing XIII will be.

Srsly, I pretty much completely agree with the rest of your points (see above). The thing is: this is relatively outside of the box for "current era" SE. The gratuitous fan-service / T&A on something not borderline lolicon, or androgynous tomboy, is at least an attempt. It's clear that SE hasn't had much of a clue for several years now but at least this is them doing something different. They didn't make a WHOLE GAME the fanservice (other than it being X-2 part 4 if you include XII XIII XII-2) they just gave you some DLC.
I remember square just throwing in small easter eggs throughout games as a wink and a nod to the faithful. As a steadfast adversary to the recent "barbie dressup fantasy" we've had, even I must give them props on a genuinely decent attempt to please multiple groups: The die hard FFVII players get a bone without affecting their new game in any way (not to mention bringing in a few old players who wouldnt give it a second look) and the gamers who enjoy the new direction SE is taking (toward the chapter 11 line).

I can fault SE many things these days, but I think this was a solid economic decision for them (sorry).

But I'll be honest I doubt I'd keep my head if I were 15 and in his situation. But I also understand most people don't play a fantasy game in search of characters that act real/human.

I think it's a pretty cool, a fun little bonus, certainly nothing to get upset over. But maybe that's because I appreciate references to past games in the series. For example Gilgamesh from xii rocking all those (fake) ultimate weapons. I liked that.

Plus taking a sword to some cactaurs seems like more fun than fighting a bunch of robots like in xiii.
