I am a sony fan that had an xbox that I ran ffxi on extinsivly for maybe 8 months to a year. Never had rrod. Sold it to a friend early last year and still no rrod.

Being a sony fan, I got the ps3 60gig(bc) really close to lauch (from what I remember) and I went through two yellow lights of death before they sent me a slim 120 gig. Overall, this ps3 has costed me 900+.

That said, im still a sony fan. I guess its just the luck of the draw.

Have to say the PS4 and Wii U are going to dominate the next gen consoles, as things stand. XBox One is not impressive, it has a few neat gimmick features but otherwise feels like it's a downgrade from the 360. I buy consoles to play games not to watch TV and crap. Sorry MS, looks like you flopped on this one.

Wii U is not doing anything. Its failing miserably and has no clear direction. Their "launch window" was a joke, it took until March to release a quality title, giving them 1. They remain at 1. They dropped out of E3 to make way for the Microsoft vs Sony showdown. Stick with the 3DS Nintendo fans.

You say its because 50% of people dont know how to take care of their stuff but tbh I am OCD clean and try to have my xbox in a virtually dust free environment. We all know if you open your xbox you break your warranty but in the average household within 3 years or less that xbox will be full with a blanket of dust and the xbox is designed to rrod before any harmful temperature is reached. Usually with this type of rrod all the components are fine you just need to clear that dust out only you're not allowed to open it, whereas if it was a pc you could do what you wanted with it.

Ive also had to replace my xbox dvd drive swapping the PCB boards which involved some soldering, you wouldnt have to do this with a desktop pc. As of right now my xbox works perfectly with the newish drive and with it cleaned inside but technically you can get banned from xbox live for doing this. This really is the only reason ill never buy another console again, not because I had to solder but knowing I could get banned from xbox live I never use it but their repair charges are half the price of a new console and five times as much as the part cost.

So ya you cant really perform a 6 month-ish clean out with consoles that are still in warranty you just have to wait for it to red ring if its before the 3 year warranty is up then send it off if its after you can either pay 100 quid to send off your console for the to just open and vaccum it clean or do it yourself and perhaps risk getting banned if you play live.

The power cords fiasco was smoke screen to distract the media from the real issue:




Which was the super-capacitor on board (the part marked "Series" on the bottom picture) which were meant to hold the date/time while the console is unplugged from mains. It's rubber insulation at the bottom would deteriorate allowing it's contents to leak over the motherboard. After reacting with the oxygen from the air and electricity from the board it would catch fire.

The replacement power cords were useless. They were sent just to calm people down.

Really that super capacitor was the ONLY flaw the original XBOX ever had. And it wasn't even Microsoft's fault to begin with. I don't think it would be practical to service every single XBOX released to fix the super capacitor issue...

Xbox360 got Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Skyrim first. It's true that the latter two games were released simultaneously, but Fallout 3 and Skyrim were both developed and finished on Xbox360 Devkits first, and ported to the PC and PS3. The process was concurrent with development, but the games were built and optimized for Xbox360 hardware, which explains the superior performance of the 360 game to the PS3 version, despite the PS3's better hardware, ergo The Xbox360 Had the titles first. (That actually might not be true for Oblivion, but given the GUI I think it's safe to say it was)

Pretty sure 360 got oblivion first only because the PS3 hadn't even been released yet.

Personally, I'm probably gonna pass on the xb1. The used game tax is the serious 12 gauge to the toes, but personally unless they start some exclusive RPG franchise, there isn't anything that interests me at all.

Everyone should whine a little more i dont think 9 pages is enough. xbox ppl are still going to buy xbox sony people playstation. I personally didnt have a issue with anything and i would pre order right now. Who gives a *** what the name is and it isn't "Pretty" and what real xbox console gamer doesn't have thier box connected to the internet 24/7? And why change the controller it's the most comfortable controller known to man even the US military use it. b4 the next post is (UmadBro) I'm really not.

Best video summary of the event I have seen yet. I'm praying the guys who did that great one of the PS4 event will do one for this. Though going back and watching the mocking PS4 event video, Sony had a lot more variety in their conference.

You with all the times MS's and Sony's system have died I must say both Nintendo and Sega made systems that last.

AMD Processor, ATI GPU, 8 Gigs of Ram.
The Question is do you want PlayStation or Xbox written on your almost PC. Really the consoles are so similar it's boring.

Myself, I'll probably just put the money towards a new PC since overall, it'll be cheaper and be more useful not to mention if it breaks in a year, I can you know just fix it myself.

Maybe I'm weird, but I think standardization of hardware is better. You get less *** in the long run, like the Skyrim DLC fiasco with Bethesda, and it cuts development costs by a fairly significant amount when you're not building code around three different standards. Just my opinion though.

granted, a lot of people also dont have the ideal cool settings for the location where they place their system and just place it in a confined cabinet with little to poor ventilation. the heat just wears the system down until it breaks.

I never bought an Xbox or a 360 because the idea of paying for Xbox live services seemed like a dumbass move to me, when I'm already paying for the internet.

Now they push "TV" and "Must connect once every 24 hours", effectively making me pay an extra sub fee for services I get elsewhere (internet ISP, Sky for TV, Netflix for films).

Given that, give me one reason why should I go for an Xbox one over a PS4 when they both come out?

They both had hardware reveals, you know what that is right? They're getting all the important, but still boring things, out of the way so they can actually talk about the important stuff come E3, like games.

Also I find it hilarious that people that are the most tech swavy and can post on blogs, twitter and webpages for hours a day are the people being most offended by a 24 hour online check.
