The only affect the new console generation is going to have on actual hardcore pc gamers,is in a few years when they stop making dual gen (ps3/360 + ps4/xbone) releases of every almost every game,we'll see noticable increases in pc hardware usage. Almost every modern pc game is a joke, and that is in part the "baseline" design made for old pc's of similar spec as modern consoles,so they can both run them. Taking advantage of new hardware and all is great, but there are still limits we get on almost pc games because of things from the opposite end. Once we see exclusive (re:next gen/pc only) titles we'll start getting more use at the top end of our hardware and see the benefits that a simply DX11 patch doesnt bring.
I think Cross-Gen titles will taper out pretty fast actually. You're being a little pessimistic even by my standards.
Hell, some of the best PC games could be defined as "Cross Gen". Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion is an amazing PC exclusive running on entirely outdated hardware.
Look at the ps2 and how long that lasted into this generation. EA (and I expect other devs to follow suit until MASS adoption of next gen) have already said they will be releasing cross gen games until 2017. I'm not a pessimist,I've paid attention to how companies progressively *** us over. I'm a realist
Your stance that it will impact PC gaming/Hardcore is entirely unfounded though.
There was no Oblivion for the Xbox or PS2
There was no Bioshock for the Xbox or PS2
There was no Mass Effect for the Xbox or PS2
Good developers make the best games they can make and that's how it really works. If you want to phone in every movie licensed title that was released on everything with a pixel to show it on, be my guest, but you're delusional.
There was FFXI on both PS2 and 360 and for some weird reason it ran and looked better on PS2 >.>;
*edit* i dont know what the arguement is atm tbh i'm just bored :x
*edit* I'm hungry i'm going to go get some cake... that's if GlaDOS didn't lie to me about it -.-

I perceived the argument as: Still current gen until 2017 because cross-gen titles 'n' stuff.
Which could be true, I'm not a clairvoyant, I can't see the future. But I think 360 and PS3 cross-gen games will be phased out rather quickly, especially when compared to the PS2 which had ongoing exclusive development practically through this entire generation.
Some of the pessimistic analyses about "nobody's going to upgrade" are unfounded, or use the Wii U as the benchmark. Developers are ready for the next hardware standard and gamers are ready for the next Hardware standard.
I like that term better, Hardware standard, because really that's all consoles are. "Next Gen" isn't technically inaccurate, but considering PC iterates technology bi-annually at least, it's better to acknowledge the consoles as "The software must run on this, then we can scale it up for those crazy *** with Quad NVIDIA Titans."

Can only run 3-way SLI with titans!
I'm only *** around with that reply >_>
But yeah I think you misunderstood me a bit. The gaming business has changed alot since the ps2 generation so I expect alot of cross gens stuff for the next few years. Market saturation will take time for the next gen,it wont take 5+ years or anything, but it'll take time.

It doesn't matter, You're right for now now, but in two months, I'll be right! Go PC!

There will be a lot of Cross-gen stuff, I'm not disputing that. But I really think it'll wane fairly quickly if the new consoles are reasonably priced. I'm heartbroken that Destiny is going to be Cross-gen, that's not going to end well.
As long as the next Elder Scrolls (Or more likely Fallout) game is Next-gen exclusive, it'll be fine. A game like that can move hardware more that stupid words like "Snapped" and "Trending".
I just realized I became one of those people. FFXI Sober for almost 2 years but still posting on these forums. Also, what the *** is a Rune Fencer?

Seems to me over the years PC gaming has had less and less titles that make you go "OMG I WANT THAT!" Not to say there aren't games that are still like that for PC, but a lot of them have console ports or are F2P but with P2W. I remember playing Deus Ex, Red Alert, Star Trek Armada, Diablo, You Don't Know Jack, Quake 3 Arena, and all those late 90's game. That was truely a golden age for PC gaming.

Well, I think that's kind of just a point all arts get to. A huge proliferation of amazing ideas in a short amount of time. As technology evolved to the point where you could start to do some really incredible ***, all the ideas that absolute geniuses had were finally able to come to fruition.
Of course, now the industry hurts itself because of this unnatural growth. Budgets are so inflated and risks are so high, nobody can really experiment. What's more, you have some overruling entity (Publisher) who thinks they know best, but are motivated by an entirely different ends. Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw made a good analogy to this being like the awkward pubescent years of gaming, too afraid of looking stupid to be their own thing. The 90's were very much that Late Childhood where everything is possible and *** the consequences.

Xbox One Won't Support Current Headsets
This is a dealbreaker for me, if it turns out to be true, I won't even look at the Xbox One. I have my 2012 Astro A30s that I take good care of and they work perfectly. They also cost 150 bucks and to me they are worth it. Durable, long lasting headsets that don't snap in two on a whim. There is no reason for me to replace them since they work for my PC, Xbox and PS3 and I use them pretty much everyday. Goodbye Microsoft.
Continuing the story, Microsoft has announced they are Partnering with Turtle Beach to produce next gen headsets, so its confirmed that everyone that values their current high quality headsets are out of luck and pocket for Xbox One. Once again, goodbye Microsoft.

I think they're referring specifically to the voice feature. Unless they intend to simultaneously obliterate all 3.5mm (or similar lolanalog) jacks in the processes, expensive headphones should still work at least.
Still, that's a silver lining to a ***quesadilla.

I personally don't have a problem with the current gen of technology. I'd rather them take another 2-3 years to bring the price down than flood the market with overpriced shitty made hardware, especially with stupid *** requirements like the "one" will have.

The only thing this coming generation of consoles has up on my current PC, is PS4s DDR5 ram. That's about it. Pretty sure everything else I have in my current PC is above Xbox Done and PS4.
Okay, I'm playing devil's advocate here, because I totally think the EA CTO is full of PR ***.
Having said that, there's a lot more that goes into performance than just the hardware. You can't just line up hardware stats and say which one will perform better, because there's a whole software layer that needs to be understood first.
My PC has better physical hardware than my Xbox360, but my Xbox360 still runs Skyrim better.
2 things:
1. how? thought the 360 version of skyrim sucked, or was that the PS version? (I don't keep up with such nonsense).
2. the next gen consoles will be PC's so their architecture will be more comparable from a physical standpoint, now as to what software is running it, that's another story.
on another note: since they will be x86 based, it will be interesting in a few years when PC's will be able to emulate these consoles...

After looking at alot, i really think i am done with game consoles. Gone are the days when i could go to the store, buy a game, and start playing it when i get home with no worries. Now games require the internet more and more. Take Armored Core V for example. A good chunk of the game is cut off from you unless you have internet. PC games are getting just as bad (I'm looking at you Diablo 3).
Look, I serve in the military. When we get deployed we dont have internet for months and month, some times years, at a time. During those times we rely on our hand helds (thank god the 3DS is still holding in there), laptop (movies mainly and a few older games), and for those rare times when you get your buddies together, a console to play a shooting/sports/racing game against each other. with these new restrictions on Xbox One, it is not deployment friendly. PS4 will likely be the same way.
Bottom line, ps3 and 360 are the last consoles i will own. I am going full time computer gamer (emulators, videos, games that dont require internet) and will no longer be supporting/playing MMO's and any game that requires a constant internet connection to play.
Society, and gamers, are becoming far too attached to the internet. Time for us to take a step back and disconnect for a bit. As i am writing this I am getting ready to go outside and enjoy my day as it is 9 AM and my coffee is done.
Yall have a good day, God bless, and see you at the fishing hole.

Then wait 2-3 years after the hardware comes out. Its impossible to prove a negative so I really have no idea what you're trying to get at.

1. how? thought the 360 version of skyrim sucked, or was that the PS version? (I don't keep up with such nonsense).
It's the PS3 version that has all the technical problems.

Maybe we need a real wizard software engineer in here, because that sure as ***isn't me. I've got maybe a layman's understanding at best, but it's been my baseless understanding that the streamlined-for-gaming approach to the console OS's give them an immense amount of leeway with the comparatively meager resources.

You can watch it in the link below or watch it on Xbox Live.

Also you can watch on Spike TV.
