And if he just got banned without any GM contact, doesn't that mean that legitimate fishers are at risk too? How do they tell who's a bot and who isn't?

I'm guessing they are able to see what a fish's HP is at any point in time and if it goes to 0% from >80% at any point.. auto-ban
or they are able to see if someone is using a bot some other way.

For the record, even if they adjust REM99s to be equal in footing to whatever new content they're putting out, they'll still be stuck with the problem that they just obsoleted almost all their previous content, because nobody is going to spend 3-6 months grinding a REM to 99 and then doing whatever new system they're doing instead of just plucking a weapon off the AH for a few million gil.

A few million casuals won't be making because plates/bills/alexandrites will never sell.

Basically they will have restored the game to the state where people have to farm beehive chips and slime oil until they save up enough for a weapon in a few months. I hope people enjoy that.

pretty much this. people had best get their gil now while they still can. all those poor fools making their income on VW drops/Currency/Alexandrite better strap themselves in and take up a craft; no one is going to spend 2-3 months buying plates/currency/etc to make a weapon that has a damage rating 75-100+ less than something they can derp up to the AH counter for.

I've been playing since NA release and, other than the billing fiasco ***, the "nothing suspect/no toe out of line" is never true.

I mean i'm not saying you/he are lying. It's just I have never heard of a fish ban without GM contact without something silly happening like commands falling into say chat or something. Maybe he did something suspect before/during update?

I haven't heard ANYTHING else about fishing and, as someone who spent yesterday fishing up all of my GP items / liks, I'm thinking we'd have heard more about this.

I don't see the big deal? When people first got Ukon is ***on, and still shits on Bravura. People felt cheated that relics are far more difficult to get then an empyrean, yet the empyrean were better. Along came ToM for relics and the masses were put at ease.

This is the same scenario again. Both my mythics are ehh atm, but that is clearly going to be fixed. Let up on the Q's!

In part it's a matter of when, but also the worry that they're going to keep doing this every few updates, since they've said they want to move to a more incremental gear model, with gear having different tiers. If they regular invalidate a previous tiers weapons, they're going to have to update REM weapons constantly to keep them up to par, and they will basically never be worth the effort because of all the time that they're "dead" weapons.

It also has a weird effect of completely trivializing anything you do have to go back for, moreso than say, Dynamis is trivial now. The damage on those weapons is so much higher than anything we've ever seen before that there will literally be no point to anything except burning to 99, buying one of these new insane weapons, and diving into the latest content. It becomes a situation where only the latest content matters, because it's completely out of proportion with everything else.

Do you honestly think a group of perle/teal/aurora gear wearing nubs who burned a 99 job and bought one of these weapons is going to be able to win at anything in what is currently considered end game content? The weapon is only as good as the player using it. Sure all of these weapons have the potential to be the best right now. But you aren't going to do ***with a great weapon when you have ***for gear. And currently if you haven't done any of this "now pointless to do content" to obtain the proper gear to play your job the right way then your are going to have limited success in doing the endgame content. And good luck finding a group of people that are going to want to waste their time doing these events with people who are to damn lazy to gear their jobs properly especially since the "old content is too easy".

I laugh at you. I hope you spend your gil buying these weapons. I'm not saying these weapons are pointless because clearly they currently reign over anything else. But you are posting this in a topic that says "Don't throw away your r/e/m" "we are gonna upgrade and make your ***golden again". So when you drop all your money on these weapons now and then cry later cause you didn't take the initiative to actually look ahead instead of seeing what is in front of you I am going to quote all of this dribble and tears that have been repeatedly posted so people can be reminded of how blatantly dismissive they are.

SE has yet to give me a reason to believe it will come to pass in any amount of time that means you won't need to get the current new stuff... Didn't they flat out admit they don't have the man power to work on it atm?

Edit: not that I have any R/E/M that matter.

Actually, they may upgrade them... they may not, they don't know if they have the man power or time to do it, so they may just not do anything...

Not for nothing, the new weapons Abyssea-fy the SoA content already in the game (reives, skirmish) in addition to everything else.

Yep, forgot that.
And believe me in spite of the fact that I loved and enjoyed Abyssea fully, I had to agree it was a big mistake.
They understood it too late, but they did and I was glad.

Now all this... It's only natural to be confused.
Before you could see a "line" they were walking on, a path they were following. We could argue on several choices, on their slow speed, but we could clearly see a general line of coherence about what they were doing.

And now? I mean... what's going on srsly? Because, once more, I start to wonder wether the re-balancements that happened over the last year were earned by the sweat of Matsui's brow, or if he just kept going on a path started by who was there before him (Tanaka?).

I asked them solely to ascertain risk, they were NOT trying to defend themselves or accuse SE of anything. They accepted their ban, having done something to deserve it.

There is no need to use auto-kill or extend duration on Hakuryu, and there is no reason for my friend to lie given that I was asking for knowledge purposes.

I don't know if it was an isolated incident, I just wanted to share what I knew just in case.

Well that whole "Abyssea was a mistake" comment was made when Tanaka was still at the head, IIRC. Who knows what they're thinking now. Kinda wish they'd go into more specifics instead of just being cryptic about stuff like this all the time, just makes me think they actually have no plan at all and they're just acting like they have one.

It could just be conjecture or "fishers panic" but someone once told me that GMs can ping you a tell without it chiming or showing up as a normal tell. I think some people just make ***up because they get super butthurt (the WINDOWER IS SATAN people). Either way I'm always sitting there while I'm fishing so I have no worries.

It just causes a panic attack to think they might accidentally get legit fishers. YOULL GET CAUGHT UP IN THE.... CROSS FIYA

You guys are too much. Really.

Abyssea a mistake? Do you guys remember the *** paradigm of FFXI before that? The wonderful world of Yilbegan and shadowed VNMs? Where Salvage skullfucked you on drops? Where it took days to get some ZNM sets because taking pictures was cutting edge FFXI? ANNMs with random dumb augments? Fomor HNMs? Shitworm taking 5hours to load then despawn cause he popped in some dumbfucking area?

I think we all understand Heroes of Abyssea pushed things too far (brews and auto-RR nonsense) but Abyssea had to happen because the game had stagnated badly, mostly due to the resource cut and we weren't going to survive much longer on Fay Augments and ANNMs. We're in the same boat here: The game needed a reset button. With R/M/Es as commonplace as they were, you cannot play this game without getting an ultimate weapon? Gee, that seems reasonable. Oh and don't even wiggle out folks, even the shittiest of *********Voidwatch (Bastok I) required R/M/Es.

Lets not even get into the murky reality that many R/M/E were underpowered or clearly not the best option for a job even at 99.

What SE has done is simply moved over to a gear ladder, with some variety but in usual fashion the base has kneejerked into a frothing, incoherent boil because "OMG THEY KILLED ALL MY WURK" without considering the content, its difficulty, doing it or calculating how difficult this new gear will take to get.

Yes guys, just like they made my Morrigan Body a joke, obsoleted my Nyzul Gear, ***on my Osode, vaporized Hagun, trashed RDM, junked EXP parties and made my PW accomplishment equal to being conscious.

At the very least Matsui has sweetened the pot where Legion failed and moving players back to needing to group up is a step in the right direction or have we forgotten this is an MMO? SoA is far from amazing but the amount of concentrated stupid coming out of the NA base is just shameful.

Not sure but if I recall it was made by Matsui himself, maybe when Tanaka was still the boss, but it was Matsui who said that.
It's not like Matsui arrived out of the blue when Tanaka left, he has always had a "core" role in FFXI side from that period of time when he got moved into the FFXIV project.
