My friend's looking to start XI again, and I told her I'd give it a go with her.

We're looking at a new server, completely fresh start(s). We do have 1 friend that still plays, he's on Odin now and told me it's a pretty good place to be. He says he'd go through it all again, from scratch with us - but only on Odin (mostly so he can use his mule to get through anything we can't together, partially for sake of ease).

I know this has probably been asked a hundred times about every server, but how is Odin doing recently? We don't plan on burning through to 95/99 as fast as we can, but how much enthusiasm is there towards older content? I'm thinking, City VW's, misc Dynamis wins, stuff like that - not so much Sky/Sea/Limbus(I know that we could trio most of that with ease).

Similarly, what's the economy like? Is it actually possible to get lower level gear? On Sylph when I last played properly, it was pretty hard to find anything under Lv70 or so.

Also, how busy are most EXP/early endgame zones? Usually I'd end up fighting against alliances of people for simple stuff, and I got really bored of it.

I would say for your region Odin is damn awful. But if you're going to play with a small group of friends then Odin is a brilliant server. :3 I just moved from there because of the massive lack of GMT based players and linkshells.

I figured the GMT population might be a bit iffy everywhere, but we're not planning on getting too much into Endgame, so for the most part, LS's aren't that big an issue.

Personally, I'm more concerned with how well we'll manage to exp due to lack of low level gear on the market now.

I'm not unbiased because Odin is clearly the best. But I will try to be mostly honest.

The population and trouble finding groups on Odin is probably just as pronounced as the other servers. Lack of low level gear might hurt you, but most of the crafters for it seem really cool. I get /tells every once in awhile for people looking to have things crafted, and if I am afk they do fine getting other crafters to do it. If people ask nice, we don't bite. Most of the people I've met are really nice. Of course there's drama, but it's avoidable. If you want it you can find it, if you don't want it you can avoid it.

So I suppose all in all, the population and grouping is probably the same as you'd find anywhere, but the nice people make up for it. ^^

I wouldn't suggest Odin, as someone who plays in GMT time I found it very hard to find people online at my time.

I'm considering moving from Odin to more gmt friendly server ( from a quick look at the server forums looks like Siren has atleast 4 GMT based LS )

If you can play at slightly later times in your night, then I think Odin's a pretty great server overall. We've just got a flux of returning/lower level players and have an alright sized high level "endgame" population. Somewhere in there, you should be able to find a home for yourself.

At worst, I would say our Japanese community kind of sucks compared to what I remember on Gilgamesh or Ifrit. They are not very inclusive to non-JP players overall, and are quite rude at times (often outright ignoring English players). Whereas on Ifrit, most interactions I had with the JP community were positive and collaborative.

All in all, where you go doesn't really matter if you stick to your own private circle for the most part. City VW's can be low-manned via voidclusters if need be, and Dynamis wins don't require much of a group anymore either. If you are really concerned about it, watch the Odin FFXIAH shout page for a few days.

That aside, Odin is swamped with groups that have no second thoughts about using you and tossing you aside like garbage.

Thanks everyone for your opinions :D!

We opted to give Odin a shot, our friend gave us a pearl for his little social and we've met some awesome people :D (Well, they're willing to listen to, and join in with, our rambling, so.. :D). I still remember enough of the game so we don't need to be horrific pests.

We figured, while she wasn't looking for mass amounts of endgame (scheduled runs with a LS sort of thing), we'd work on things that we wanted to do back at 75 and get "good/acceptable gear" opposed to top tier, highest echelon stuff - pretty much everything that can be done with a small social LS :D!

There is a brilliant GMT and NA shell called TheTsviets full of nice people can probably get you some pearls. Odin is utterly crap if you are EU/GMT most of the good shouts are 10pm+.

Don't. There's only 1 eu ls on the whole server and it's just social at that. So...yeah, skip Valefor.
