Hi all

i've just started fishing on my mule and noticed that my fps drops to 14 from 30 soon as the toon pulls out his rod and goes back to 30 the second he puts it away, has anyone else ever experienced this? it's very anoying for a 10 year old game to be doing this on a 2012 rig.

any help would be nice thanks.

using windower and it happens single box or dual box

[dev1126] Fishing Adjustments
An upper limit on the frame rate for fishing animations has been implemented so as to decrease the gap experienced between different platforms.

Has nothing to do w/ your system.

Before i read this link i'm just going to say onry SE could do something so HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE.screw the crappy consoles, they need to drop support for PS2 as im sure xbox has no problem fishing?

Also thanks for the link
The game is coded as a PS2 game. You may play it on PC/xbox but basically you're emulating a ps2 game. Them dropping consoles will do nothing for the PC as they would have to recode the entire game for pc for it to even matter. (which they wont do)

They updated it because it's supposedly easier to fish on PS2. They were trying to be fair.

it's being interpreted backwards. this was done so people with fast computers could drain fish as fast as ps2

it IS HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE, but

there's also a fix floating around for PC

Pretty much this. I find it to be highly annoying to be honest.

"Which they wont do"... looks like you missed that SE is working on a new client for Windows only.

fishing on this outdated mini game they did has a number of flaws 1 of which is that drain rate scales with fps.

i came upon this realization naturally, while fishing on the Selbina Ferry during pirate attacks I could suddenly drain fish much better on my circa 2002 Intel P4 machine. this was because my frame rate would drop when all the bones were drawn.

after playing around with it i found 17-18fps to be extremely effective for all fish, but 15 is simply too low and distorts the movement of the rod. thus the desire for a fix, which was allegedly prompt and effective

the real reason they did this was probably just to cover up that flaw. nonetheless for fish with lots of HP like gugrusauri, 15fps is in fact better. for other fish that move a lot like hakuryu, its not so good.

idk if they are trying to sell cheap computers for AMD or just study fishbots for future cheap energy research but if they do something itl be like cutting their own throats

if ps2 could ever be thought of as an advantage over pc concerning ffxi fishing it would only be for that one reason.

What about AMD? AMD has no problem running XI. My budget AMD rig can play all modern games. FFXI is a complete joke to run.

it's all new to me,can you explain how the PS2 was at an advantage fishing over the pc?

thanks

lower frame rate lets you be quicker reacting to movement on the fishing rod, although your frame rate drops stop complaining for SE letting pc users be able to catch tougher fish easier then they used to be able to...

Tough fish were never hard to catch on PC. So easy, it's almost as if they catch themselves!

What next?,drop frame rates on weapon skills so lolconsoles don't set of fire

i believe you are not understanding the issue at hand

The fps reduction was not done to please he console user, but the pc users, since a higher fps make it harder to fish. The fish fightback is based on fps so higher fps means its harder to real in.
also reducing YOUR (on pc) fps on WS would do nothing to ease up on consoles as graphics are client sided.

so all the fancy "drop the console because it destroying the game" is just meh talk.

A little information before I go into detail.

The fishing 'mini game' has 5 positions, 10 o'clock, 11, 12, 1, and 2 o'clock.

Positions 10, 12, and 2 are the main positions players will recognize. Your goal is to move the rod the opposite direction the rod is facing to deplete the stamina of the fish while at 12 o'clock you back off. 11 and 1 o'clock can appear with any fish, but high level fish will use it more often. The rod only remains in the 11 and 1 o'clock positions for a moment, but it's purpose is to trick the player into reacting early so the fish can regain stamina.

The slower the FPS the longer the rod will remain in these positions giving the player more time to reduce the stamina of the fish before it changes positions again.

For example:

Let's say that 10, 12, and 2 o'clock lasted normally 1 second, and 11 and 1 o'clock lasted 0.25. If you cut your FPS in half you could get (guess work) 2 seconds for 10/12/2 o'clock and 0.5 for 11/1 o'clock.

10/2 gave us a total of 2 seconds before while 11/12/1 gave us 1.5, with the reduced FPS you now have 4 seconds with 10/2 and 3 with 11/12/1.

These are all made up numbers, as the time it lasts in a certain position is random, but this still gives us information. With a lower FPS the player will have more time to lower the stamina, but the rod will also remain in dead zones longer as well. For the normal player this gives them more opportunity, but for the botter this actually slows them down. This is because a bot doesn't need to worry about recovering the stamina of fish, and since the game is forcing a lower FPS they are in the dead zone longer making fishing slower.

SE did this for the fisherman who are trying to fish more challenging fish, like Hakuryu, Matsya, or any of the legendary fish available in the game.
