Graphic card upgrade issues AMD/nvidia

Here is my problem, wondering if anyone came across any of them, or maybe even have sollution.
Use to have AMD HD 4350, running smooth (1920x1080, most effects off).
Upgraded to HD7770, newest drivers, clean windows install, all effects on, give 2 problems:
1 HDMI sound would stop working after some time, and give only static/stuttery noice.
2 Weird big polygons(triangles) would apear, for a split second, every 10 to 20 minute or so. Some triangles as big as from side of the screen to center.
Tried swapping for a new HD7770, different card, exact same issues.
Now swapped to nvidia GTX 550. This one works ok, only problem is sometimes some objects look like they blink (lighting seems to turn on/off for those object). Seen someone's hair blink, or a shoe, etc. Also this card performs less then the AMD, so would like to get the HD7770 working.
So anyone experience with AMD HD7770, or had simular problems and know a fix? Or anyone know what the blinking from the nvidia card is?
Thx for the read, hoping anyone might have a clue.

Flow that sounds like a faulty card to me if same issue with new card then its drivers or still poss faulty card , I fit new boards in C/H boilers for a living and sometimes get faults on new boards.

Tried two different brand new HD7770 :(. i can get any other card to try it out with, but 2 brand new cards giving same issues makes me think it's AMD sounddriver + ffxi issue

Might wanna go back and try some legacy drivers.
The newest drivers aren't always the best for older games.

it's a video card, not much to do with the sound drivers unless you have audio over hdmi, you try another monitor to try?
try a lower resolution?
but it does sound like the graphics driver issues, especially considering you're using an older operating system and the drivers are kinda "meh" if you can find them at all.
(mobile's even worse)
on the amd do you have the catalyst controller installed?
and did you make sure to uninstall it when you had the nvidia card in? and the same when you tried the new amd card?
do you have a spare hdd?
and did you try to run all your directx tests?

Guess i might give that a go.

Did install newest driver from website, including control center. Used AMD first in clean windows install. Removed all drivers/amd software, when i swapped to nvidia.
And yeah using audio over HDMI to hook up to tv fullscreen. Why i think ffxi has issues with newest AMD HDMI sound driver. Sound works fine with the nvidia card.
Lower resolution shouldn't matter, as the AMD HD 4350 used to run 1920x1080 just fine.
Work in a computer store so luckily can swap cards at will. 2 HD7770 had simular issues though. Bringing home a GTX550 nr 2 today to try see if the nvidia blinking is the card.
Hoping legacy drivers might be worth a shot. Will try that for the AMD.

remember XI relies heavily on properly working directx, and while cards are semi-legacy, making sure the drivers support dx9 properly (since it's Windows XP I'm going to assume they do, because if I remember correctly 9.0c is the last directx for XP, and it's old)
tbh, what brand of cards are you buying with these chipsets? and what temp is it running at?
By Jetackuu 2012-09-04 08:03:24
shouldn't =/= doesn't.
Ah, Idk much about sound over hdmi on pc's, but can you disable it and try to see if the other effects still happen? (I know you can't test your audio going out that way).
Also, do you get these issues on anything else but XI?
and that must be nice...

Using Sapphire for the AMD cards, EVGA for the nvidia.
Using drivers from both AMD and nvidia site. hoping to try legacy/older drivers later today. (at work still)
Also temperature doesn't seem to be the issue, gonna install EVGA precission to fine-tune card, and check temperature. It feels cold though, and GPU fan stays in silent mode, never spinning to full speed.

yeah, sounds good.
playing with drivers would be your best bet.

Weakness gives sound advice so I'm quoting this.
As a starting point, I'd try the AMD Catalyst 12.2 drivers first and then work your way up to the current version.
Why? You ask. Radeon 7770 was released in Feb 2012. Hence I suggest trying the 12.2 drivers because those were released on Feb ( 2) 20 12 and I'm fairly sure there's support for the Radeon HD7770. They may have included support in the drivers a few months beforehand but you can check the drivers' release notes for support information.
Also, if you're overclocking your card, stop and clock it back to normal. There was a thread earlier about how someone bought a new card and overclocked it and it worked flawlessly on everything but FFXI. Yeah, that's the price you pay for playing a game that doesn't like new hardware.

Thank you for looking that up, will give me a good start. ATM i'm working with nvidia trying to see why that one flashes/low fps for the card.
But this weekend i will have time to try a fresh install, and work with AMD again. Liking the 7770 cause it's a lot more powerfull, and uses same amount (not much) power.
Haven't overclocked any of the cards, gonna work with them with out of the box settings.
Hope to get back to the AMD part this weekend

I do hope you just mean a fresh install of the card and not the game and or system...

Flowooo,
I didn't see what model desktop or laptop you have but I had issues with my HD 5880 with FFXI. I updated my vBIOS, Laptop mb BIOS, and using the latest AMD drivers and it corrected all my issues.
I have ASUS g73 gaming laptop and BRD songs, Confluxs, Avatars, and such would drop me to like below 10 framerate and PJ wpuld just killed me.
I think a few ppl mentioned a fresh install of windows and your drivers, I highly recommend that as well.
