PS2 users

People stressing for nothing. lol People obviously have more power over you then you do yourself. Hope you're proud.
People that are head over heels for PS2 consoles obviously are stuck in some fantasy that the ability to upgrade/enhance older software to utilize modern hardware seems nonexistent.
Yes I'm sure they most likely wont do anything of the sort, but they can! I wish they did. Newer and newer games coming out that do use it. The majority of people are going too or already have a console that is 10-20xs more powerful.
I guess it's just me lol I'm the only one in the entire Final Fantasy XI community that wishes they would upgrade to look and feel better. I guess that's why I play FFXIV now.
This is completely failed logic. Look at the Xbox 360, way superior in graphics and resolution... but achieves nothing signifigant hardware wise concerning the games actual structure.
If they ever did a PS3 release (that SOMEHOW wasn't a PS2 emulation which would result in the EXACT SAME gameplay you already do on a PS2)... the game wouldn't be any more fit to upgrade without a code rewrite which SE doesn't have the budget for.
You could completely remove Xbox360 and PS2... and it would benefit the game absolutely none while losing a giant portion of the player base because of a concept you understand nothing about.
Get from under your rock. Talking like you can play some super high end software game on a Nintendo. You can only go as far as your hardware. Ignorant I swear lol Wouldn't lose much of their player base. Like I said most, if not all have consoles already that are much more powerful. Do your own research. Rambus If you (and all so suddenly) knew and understood how ram works and how it needs to flow to the cpu, which in ps2's case is very slow, then you would have dropped it long ago. Is it comparable to pc3200? No. The FBS is higher and iirc can be tweaked and iirc pc3200 is pumped 4x as opposed to the old 2x.

Go check out toms hardware or email the guys at Crucial or Corsiar. This is bordering a haste discussion.

No, they can't upgrade the game's capabilities without an engine overhaul, and they won't do that because there's no logical reason for them to do so.

I want to see 1024x1024 rendered polys lol HD graphics alone would make me one hell of a happy camper. Myself a graphic designer, enjoys seeing pretty graphics vs boxes. I'm simply talking about what a lot of people want. Who doesn't wish the game had better graphics or was more fluid? Fyreus wants to be able to see more players on their screen. Some want the game to have a bigger selection of auto translations. Or maybe another wants to play the game in real HD and see prettier special effects.
Common sense is exactly that. I'll leave it at that. Some people in this thread is obviously to narrow minded to even begin to understand any sort of change. Talk about dreams shattered T.T Can't even talk about the what if portion of FFXI 2.0 /sniff

You really shouldn't say can't. That's really setting your bar pretty low. The fact is they can, but refuse too because they would lose out on a decent sized portion of their JP PS2 users.
You should read on this guys post. Had some nice points about why PS2 should be dropped and or what they could do just to overall make the game better.

The graphics of FFXI while dated are long lasting and current in my opinion. Do you think the graphics of FFXIV are honestly what make the game great to you? The fact you even mentioned you were glad you left XI to move to XIV shows your driven by shiny graphics and interfaces regardless of the fact the entire game is sub-par and has no depth in comparison to other MMO's.

This is where my point comes in. Dropping PS2 support and recoding the game to "look and feel better . . . fluid" as YOU describe... will cut profits and waste money in the recode... which you complain they "can but won't do". When the correct answer is they SHOULDN'T do.
If anyone has a narrow mind and stubborn head on their shoulders it's unfortunately just you. NONE of the information (minus the argument between Jetackuu and someone else about RAM or whatever) is fabricated or talked out of my *** or Jetackuu's for that matter.
I for one would NEVER wish a code rewrite or graphics engine upgrade on FFXI... because it will destroy what made the game classic and everlasting for the past 10 years. I would NEVER want to cut out an entire JP community on PS2 and wish SE to commit FFXI suicide by losing profits and dumping money into a worthless cause.
I gave FFXIV a long lasting fair trial even despite the total beta blowout... the game is garbage even with the pretty graphics and shiny interface. You can explore all content within your 30 day trial and has zero depth. 2.0 is a false hope and this legacy program is another life support to keep people subscribed until 2.0 comes out at a way later date with the promise of a small discount.
In short graphics don't make the game. They never have and never will. They are a wow factor at best and I would never wish upon anything that FFXI gets recoded and drops the PS2 playerbase because it would be the death of the game period.

no it's because the strategy wouldn't be cost effective, it would a bad business decision, no company is going t invest millions to lose money on purpose, so yes they can't within reason.
Again: the only purpose dropping the PS2 would serve is to overhaul the engine, which isn't going to happen as also stated.

It's not just about what I want. If it's just about what I wanted... You seriously think so? Why would the majority of games become what they are today? Yeaaa totally, I'm the only one who enjoys prettier graphics. /nod
As for 14 talk about content. They released the game too early. You judge to soon. The game is still in die hard development. Really shouldn't be talking about that. lol I just started the game this month really. Already got 3 50 jobs and completed the main story line and all GC quests. I don't log on anymore really because there isn't much to do. So looking forward to seeing what 2.0 has to offer.

If there's 1 thing they could afford to recode, it's the POL to FFXI imho. I say that as i'm not a fan of pol and the billing sucked when it was around and sometimes the extra procrastination could be avoided with a simple log in screen like 14 D:
I haven't noticed any uproar over this but has anyone noticed that on the teaser site that PS2 isn't listed as a supported system?
