Dark Souls & other Souls-Likes
I was never in human mode because I died so much. LOL.
On my first playthrough, after dying to a twink in the Undead Burg, and seeing how Humanities were precious, I decided to stay in ghost form...of course I could've just switched to offline mode...and I didn't know about NPC invasions, and that they required you to be in Human form (and ofc I missed every chance to summon an NPC for bosses...solo ftw).
a big thank you to lxion for helping me with Four Kings!
and about the game itself... dont be afraid to call on help, theres entire covenants based entirely on doing that, if one boss is kicking your butt too much, try reverse hollowing and checking near the boss area, might find some friendly people willing to give a hand Bahamut.Rulerofdarkness

I mentioned it in RT and got one response, but I'm going to post it here too for hopefully a broader range of responses.
I will most likely be getting Dark Souls for my birthday soon, and I was just wondering which platform I should get it on. I am debating between PS3 and PC. What I'm curious about is if I TPB it for PC, will I still have all features available? Since it's apparently hosted through LIVE, will online be an option for pirated versions? Or does it actually have good security and blocks you since I wouldn't have a legit copy. This is ultimately my deciding factor. If I can play all features of the game fine with the pirated version I will get it for PS3. PC you'll get mods, HD textures, etc.
thing is, you'll get a lot more hackers. you'll also get access to character building programs after you're done with the story and just want to build quick PvP builds. idk tho, i think it's fine on xbox. Thinking about grabbing this some time this month during the inevitable steam christmas sale, anything I should know before making the plunge? I played a bit of demon's souls but never beat it.

Hmmm. Looks like it will indeed be time to raise the jolly roger. how can there be hackers on xbox but not pc >_>
There are hackers on PC, there's just not really alot of them. Granted the PC population isn't very large (Releasing the DLC on the consoles really killed the PC imo.)
The population on the 360 is much much more, and then the population on the PS3 is even greater than that. CONGRATS To Domz. Me, him, and a fatman with a Zaphander tore the Four Kings apart! And now he's terrorizing everyone as a Darkwraith! Phoenix.Amandarius

Got stuck on Lord Gwyn and kinda quit. I was a Ranger that fought mostly with just sword and shield while dodging most attack with rolls and stuff. I never really got good at parrying and this fight doesn't seem possible without it. Gwyn is too super aggressive for my techniques that got me to the last boss.
evasion is just as important as blocking in the first playthrough, but is more important later on in NG+

I died 3 times using my standard dodging/blocking techniques and then looked it up on youtube to see how others did it. So when I died again I warped out to some place with lesser mobs and taught myself how to parry and then ran back to Gwyn >.> took me another (idk 6 tries) before I killed him. also tried that stoneskin/heavy armor technique to take some of the damage off while trying to parry him but I often found myself dieing to reapply it or when it would wear. It took some trying..stoneskin when you enter, parry him on first attack and block his other stuff til you can parry again..run away behind that one rock to apply stuff or heal and then try parrying again. parry was really the key for me though >.> Kujata.Daus said: » Phoenix.Amandarius said: » Got stuck on Lord Gwyn and kinda quit. I've done it, granted I had Estus +6, but it was rough. Took me two tries. The Iron Flesh technique only really is viable if you can deal out enough damage to kill him in the first cast. That in itself can be lucky, because his grab can take a decent chunk of the timer off. He's alot like Artorias in aggressiveness. Artorias does take a sec to buff himself though, so that is nice. The biggest thing would be to manipulate the map in such a way that the stalagtites(mites?) often separate him from you, so you can heal. Also, he's a sad joke against a caster. Max damage Crystal Soul Spears.. like 3 shot. I finally fought Gwyn with Solaire as a summon the other day, was fun watching him confused who to attack.
Just use the Parrying Dagger and wear decent armor. It's pretty hard to screw up then as long as you watch for his grab. The parrying window with the eponymous dagger is huge, and my brother beat him without being hit (just grabbed once, derp). His dash attacks are actually easier than his swings if you roll away after each counter. Probably makes him the easiest supposed-to-be-hard boss after Ceaseless.

Nope. I never saw a game like this before that gives you so little direction or explanation of anything.
If you want direction you get on a wiki to hold your hand, that's how I see it anyways.
The game is meant to not hold your hand, and you learn from your own experiences. That is fun for some, not fun for others. You know who you are and should decide if you want your hand held or not. Phoenix.Amandarius

Not complaining at all, I loved the game. Just never saw anything like it.
Not saying you were, just saying :)
