Just one thing for future reference: please use the upper-case when you start the title of a thread!
Everytime I see the threads you make it drives me crazy!
i am sorry about that i never think of it if they let us edit are titles i would fix it right now. but i will try to remember for next time.

Positive feedback or Seha!
On that note: Don't play anymore so nothing really drives me on it.

Friends and having fun. Getting too much into linkshells just plain isn't fun anymore. People always tend to backstab you or just make federal excuses once they got their equip.

The atmosphere and the community.

Everything about this game ends up making me feel nostalgic if I think back to when I first experienced a part of it. Like, travelling to the Promyvions and thinking about how much fun they were and how much fear they injected into you as you sneakily scaled the tower.

And the community has just always been great. The ratio of great people to jerks is way beyond the proportions in practically every other community I've ever been a part of.

For me playing a character of my creation, how i want. For better or worse, i get to connect with people and accomplish goals through this character. This game allows us to be defined as we want, not from what job we are or weapon we wield. This game is the closest thing to living in a Final Fantasy world. We as players finally have a say in how the game is played, the story is told, and the battles are fought in this edition of the beloved series.

I loved the story. I loved the people, my friends and linkshells. Right now I play because I still have a few friends who play who I do limbus with. I imagine if/when they leave, we'll drift away too.

i never thought of the game like that but it is true, maybe a long time a go i would of said this my self, but things have changed so much from what they used to be for me and for the game.

people have gone and not come back people that we would stay up late and just talk with, people who no matter what even if they never helped when u really needed it they were there for u.

so trust me i understand.

Be wary of your choices though... Lest you be branded "gimp" due to poor equipment choices...
Or game play style ...

(like if others care if you are exercising your right of choice, they're exercising their right to point fingers/laugh/criticize, etc ... -_-; )

And no I'm by no means a "pimped up" player D: more like a grumpy peasant that's used to be called gimp ... Or exert the right of poor equipment choices.

Good threat. I used to play FFXI because I liked the game. Now I play FFXI because I like the people in it. ;)

And even the bad apples have their value. XD

I first started playing the game when I was 13 because it was a customizable game where you could be and do anything you wanted.

As the years passed, I grew to enjoy the storyline, being there when CoP was released and actually getting to enjoy the story and struggle through those fights when there weren't strategy guides to aid you along the path. Enjoying achieving these daunting tasks these days seems to foreign to a player, it's no longer, let me read this cutscene, or actually find out why I have to run across the whole map of Vana'diel to chase down this random NPC. It's now a mentality of, I need to talk to this NPC, this NPC, this NPC and then I get my gear. Sometimes I miss not knowing what to do next. Having content that's unknown and being a player in the forefront trying to figure out how to do it.

Another thing I thoroughly enjoyed was the HNM era at 75 cap. Nothing to this day will be as fun as camping Tiamat for 48 hours straight, checking in on 30 minute windows and it going to force with 5-6 other LS out there, and fighting that massive dragon with a large audience doing anything in their power to slow you down. Maybe I'm a bit of a masochist but I enjoyed the days of 100+ people in DA when it didn't matter if you had a bot or not 'cause there was so much lag, even the bots weren't claiming and it was all luck, and that feeling when you claimed it. The feeling of getting my E.Body on my first character from a Nidhogg, all of these things culminating to honestly probably the thing I love most about XI. The drive for achievement and striving to be a better player. That's what makes XI the best in my opinion.

OP

I enjoy it because to me it seems like a FFT game that you can play online. Those titles are still some of my favorite games, I still think SE shoulda named it "Final Fantasy Tactics Online"

Enjoying playing with people who know how to play and worked for their gear and didn't just have it handed to them. Yup, pretty strange.

Dual job systems, individual job levels, job traits and abilities?

don't really see how anyone's gear is "handed" to them, but ok.

I don't see waiting around to play a game as fun, and that's all NM camping is.

Tactics didn't have dual jobs, multiple jobs sure, but that still isn't much like Tactics. All the games had job traits and abilities.

Wasn't camping the NMs part that was fun, but that can be fun if you have a good LS. The fun part was the fights.

Idk when I was playing the Tactics titles, it really felt like a dual job system. read: I used any two job combinations simultaneously and customized my job traits and abilities.

meh the countless hours wasted camping ruined any fun the fights may have had for me I guess...

I still think it's insane that there's NM's with 24hour timers on them... (I guess I'm one of the few, or the GM's don't like when you rip on them for their screwy system as I've been jailed for complaining about it before in Jeuno...)

to each their own I guess.

Using two skills =/= using two jobs.

And traits weren't customizable, abilities were in the sense that you had to earn them...

Did anyone ever make an online Tactics style game though? (inb4 a chess reference).
