Pinecone Bomb? since it's fire based skillchain trait maybe only fire acc+ helps the sleep land? hmmm but fire composes light so maybe light acc+ helps too/instead

Could test someone using a tiamat resist build if bored someday and see if they resist the sleep greatly or not at all differently lol
not at all how add effect elements work

Speaking of which, are there any cases where Chatoyant is inferior to the staves themselves?

For BLU? Just the PDT loss from terras, but you can get NQ for that.

can also cap pdt in your other slots and not have to use the nq.

memory is hazy on pinecone bomb but i've tried against them on undead and never slept them so I assumed darkness.

and afaik there has only been light/dark based sleeps in ffxi; additional effects still follow their respective element traits, blu isn't any different.

It's darkness. Easiest way is tossing the spell on undead or dark elementals. There's no such thing as a non elemental sleep

Is a Jupiter's Staff better than Iridal for CW? Is it likely to make a difference when burning?

(Jupiter's is actually the only HQ staff I have...)

Jupiter's will be better than Iridal since Iridal will give the same boost as Thunder Staff.

That's what I figured. So the next part of my question was, how much difference will it make inside Abyssea?

Well BGWiki lists the damage difference as 5%, so depending on the strength of your CW I would say at least 300 damage.

Which body piece would be better for vanity dive? Toci's or af1+1? Due to its high (50%) dex mod, toci's offers a lot more for it than it does for other spells.

Toci's will give 3.25 damage from fSTR, and 6.5 D from dex. So 9.75 base D increase (we'll assume capped acc).

Magus +1 offers 2 D from skill (for arguement's sake), 1.25 D from str, and 2.5 D from dex. So 5.75 D total, plus blu attack that the skill adds.

So basically, does 4 base damage outweigh the blue attack gained from af1+1? I'm mostly concerned with dynamis EP and DC mobs. And is there a formula for converting blu skill to blu attack, or is it currently unknown?

Magus +1 actually adds four base damage from skill in most configurations. You also neglected alpha on WSC; 13 DEX actually yields 5-6 base damage depending on flooring (5.525 average) and 5 DEX yields 1-3 (2.125 average). So it's 8.775 base D vs 7.375 base D.

2 points of STR add 1 attack and every point of skill adds 1 attack, giving Magus +1 an 11 attack advantage. This translates to a ~2% increase in attack, which will easily outweigh the slightly higher base D on Toci's.

Ah that makes more sense. I forgot about alpha and the second multiplier on blu skill. Thank you for clearing that up for me and explaining the blu attack relation.

Prothescar, when I first made BLU I used your spellcast as a benchmark for writing my own but I came across a few discrepancies that you may A)Be unaware of, or B)Could help me understand

1) You have an "Osmosis" set, which you call to be used when casting Osmosis, but you also call your "Blue Magic Skill" set for Osmosis as well.

2) On BG, you tested Amorphic Spikes to be modified by DEX and INT, but in your spellcast, you call your "STRVIT" set for Amorphic Spikes

3) What is the purpose of these lines? Are they necessary?:
Code xml
<action type=aftercastdelay delay="1" />

4) Is there any difference between these equip commands? I've seen XMLs with both:
Code xml
<action type="equip" when="precast" set="STRVIT" />
Code xml
<equip when="precast" set="STRVIT"/>

I honestly don't know much about XML writing so I apologize if these appear to be dumb questions

Aftercastdelay modifies the time when your aftercast gear swaps in. Default values, relative to (casttime+1.5), are 0 seconds for spells and ranged and 1.5 seconds for JA/WS. <aftercastdelay delay="1"/> would change that value to 1 second after (casttime+1.5). When I used aftercast (I use a different method now), I always set aftercastdelay to 0 for instants so that I'd be back in the appropriate set by the time JA delay ended.

It's not necessary to define delay times, as spellcast has default values that it uses if you don't.

<action type="equip" when="precast" set="STRVIT" />
Code xml
<equip when="precast" set="STRVIT"/>
The first is the depreciated version of the latter. All "action type" rules have been outmoded since 2.3 or earlier.

Never purged the Osmosis set/rule when I consolidated all of the skill based spells into one rule.

STR+INT set would be a waste of inventory space, and my STR+DEX set would be slightly inferior to STR+VIT for Amorphic. Or they might be equal. Don't remember or care really.

I have aftercast delays set in due to latency issues. Often would not have gear swapping properly without them.

I gotcha. A. Spikes is probably my main nuke right now so I thought I would give it some special attention. Although before I do, I should probably read up more on how BLU physical magic damage is calculated. I may just stick with my own STRVIT set but we'll see.

Soil gorget would save the most inventory for just BLU since it covers 4/5 of the ones you'd ever potentially use.

I only carried soil and shadow because I already had them from other jobs, and even in that I only had Shadow in my satchel 99% of the time for Requiescat since I didn't use the Soil weaponskills ever.

Obi and Cape work on Osmosis, yes.
