Hollywood wants to shut down even more sites.
Even more: Fileserve and Wupload shut down.
Let's not forget that Filesonic also killed itself.
Thoughts?

Well my 'home' already shut down (Quicksilverscreen, not MU, I rarely used MU, but QSS shut down less than a week after MU I guess they got scared) so now I get all my movies and ***from torrents..

Good luck on them finding and shutting down the torrent site I use. It's not public so they've probably never even heard of it, and probably never will.

So...

If you don't think agencies like the RIAA have private accounts in paid torrent and newsgroup sites, you're sadly mistaken. Spending a minimal monthly fee is nothing for the RIAA if they can catch a few distributors here and there then fine/sue the wallet out of their pockets. For all we know, a few users here work for them. If I had to guess, I bet they sit and watch until they find something big enough to hit on. Publicly saying they do it would make their job harder.

There is probably more to the legal aspects of Megauploads case then the public is privy to.

It's not paid, either.

And no I don't doubt that they do have paid accounts on those private torrent sites and newsgroups..

Just the torrent site I use is pretty obscure, there are 100 other sites before it that would garner more attention, and it's invite only. Could the RIAA or the like hold accounts on it already? Yeah.. I just kinda doubt they do and I kinda doubt it'll change.

hollywood is doing more to hurt the general public/other organizations right now than actually hurting piracy, and they always will.

I think I'm going to work on expanding my book library this year significantly more if not exclusively over my blu-ray collection.

Best way to punish them is not consume their trash.
Even by pirating you're indirectly helping them, keeping them afloat with word of mouth.

I disagree somewhat, but I've limited my consumption hardcore personally.

Like I really want to see Avengers...

SO bad.

but I'll refrain.

There's not much in the public domain for movies/music/shows, but for software there definitely is, and games, and that's where I've been for some time now.

I pritty much gave up on Hollywood all together a while back. There is only one movie I have seen in the past couple years that I can honestly say was worth the money and/or the time spent watching it (5 hours long so a bit more time then your average movie) which I don't think Hollywood had anything to do with. The only thing I am interested in seeing at this point is Game of Thrones, other then that I don't think I will be picking up or going to see a single movie this year.

While that's true, I rather have my money go at least somewhat towards royalties to deserving and talented authors than movie directors that have lost any sense of entertainment value or originality and continue to pump out high budget delusions of grandeur which I couldn't care less for.

you'd be better off cutting a check to the author directly, doubt they get royalties after a certain point then it's just the publisher's money, not to mention that once books hit the stores shelves they are pretty much paid for, if they get pulled they get destroyed.

You might be onto something. Could send the author a check and a hand written letter showing my support and likely receive a copy of their work(s) in return without having to resort to middleman publishers or used book stores.

Though I don't know how realistic or ideal the outcome of such a method would be. Wishful thinking for now~

Wasn't there a thing you could download that masks your connection to certain "listeners" while downloading torrents? I forget the name, but I know it was a good security measure in terms of not getting caught.

On a side note, I think it's hilarious we can talk about this openly here yet third party FFXI tools, totally forbidden. But alas, it's the nature of the site as a whole and what it represents.

I think we're good as long as we're not posting links or describing the methods in detail.

Like I said, the only way to cut these leeches (publishers) from the chain is starve them to death.

The way it is now, only the big sharks get the food. For the authors only scraps are left behind. Sad and true. And the publishers even have the nerve of stating that when you pirate stuff you're stealing from the author.

Don't pirate, don't buy, don't feed this system that's leeching everyone out of their hard earned money.

(I am being specific here, I don't mean ruin the video game industry YET. But sadly they seem to be keen into following the movie and music industry footsteps. Just watch what EA and Activision became... )

I think most of you are only looking at it one sided. The whole shutdown those sites are a simple case of them protecting their jobs. I'll be honest, I use them and download movies and stuff. However I understand that when i do that, it takes the potential revenue out of the picture. Its quite simple really. Hollywood made a product to sell, but that guy is giving away their work for free and the only thing the other guy has to do, is click a few buttons and wait 60 secs. So ya I can understand them shutting down the sites and trying to fight it off the internet. Sadly though, they wont win. Kill 1, there will be 2 more up within 24hrs.

I honestly do not feel I am taking ANY revenue from them.. Honestly I am download crazy but anything I download I would have NEVER never have bought anyways...
(Makes me laugh http://www.youhavedownloaded.com/ comes up clean but that site seems like a joke anyways)

Hell sometimes I download movies I do have just because downloading them is easier and faster then ripping them and I want a digital copy... (before the yea right you download it all starts my wall 10 feet from me has about 3000 Dvds on it and I have more in the closet, garage, shop, car, spare rooms closet etc...) Am I going to pay to watch a series I saw an episode or two of and decided to watch the series... no GF wanted to watch MR. Poppers Penguins... No.. If I could not watch them for free I would not watch them at all until they played it on TV or was hosted on Amazon prime.

you don't understand it if that's what you think, they aren't trying to protect their assets they're trying to destroy competing industries.

copyright law has been bastardized by them in the first place, it shouldn't have even got this far.

My friend really wanted to go see it so I reluctantly went with him. It was 5 dollar movie day, so I figured why not.

We almost left the theater after 20 minutes. We ended up leaving about a half hour later and wishing we had left earlier.

That movie is so bad I can't even believe it had been made. Who read that script and gave the OK to make it? Were they drunk? Mentally handicapped? I don't know.
