Saw this on youtube. Man, I have no idea if this is fake or not, I do not know enough about flight. I want it to be real!
Hell, I want to buy one if it's real. If it's fake... Awww. ;_;

Seems feasibly possible with a wingspan like that. I think someone actually read this in a news post somewhere to me recently too.

Even if it's real, that design looks incredibly tiring. Basic physics and biology at work, our muscles and bonus aren't designed for flight. You'd never get much in the way of distance unless you could ride a really strong updraft.

If you did catch a strong updraft I'd imagine comming down might be a bit of a problem as well.

True enough, but he's in a harness attached to some sort of mechanical arms, that amplify human muscle power. Or something like that. Assuming it's not a complete hoax.

I wonder what a "good" ratio of weight to wing span is, and what kind of muscle mass is required to power it. Maybe carbon fiber and magic cloth* could overcome our heavy bones and thick legs. Then, it's just a matter of developing the right muscles. And human beings (with the right desire) can do insane things. I'm not thinking it would replace walking, but, for those adventure athlete types, it could be cool. Really cool.

*made up cause I'm not smrt enough

Gizmodo has an article on the topic, according to them, CGI experts say it's fake. Here is the link.

On top of it looking incredibly fake when he takes off... How he holds his legs for the duration of flight, would be damn near impossible, seeing as they aren't strapped in.

Shouldn't be impossible to create something like that with current's technology

Would require a great deal more than lightweight materials and colorful cloth to make something like that which legitimately functions as a pair of wings and which would work for more than 100 feet. Unless, of course, you're some apex of human anatomy. It'd certainly be possible, but with the hardware shown in that video, or any hardware that's wieldy enough to be appropriate for any sort of urban use, certainly not.

Would also like to mention that neither his legs nor his arms are attached to anything, which would be more than required for any sort of contraption such as this one to work.

Technology doesn't change the basics of flight. :)

There was an entire documentary on the guy (he is crazy) on channel 4 I think (england), amongst other thrill seekers like the people who do untethered high wire.

http://www.channel4.com/programmes/daredevils/episode-guide/series-1/episode-1

If you can watch this in your country, all the episodes are online and epic.

It's in dutch. At the end, he is saying how magical it felt, the intense feeling of freedom, and that it was the best feeling he ever felt in his life. Bunch of bull that makes it even more obvious it's fake.

You can't make your muscles more powerful than they are. Human arms aren't strong enough to lift ourselves into the air you'd need some sort of assistance:
