My opinion is that this may be somewhat viable. It says violent videogames lead to "aggressive behavior" not necessarily violent behavior. Look at people who play Call of Duty for example, and tell me how many people who play and AREN'T aggressive.
ever played a sport? There's a guy on my baseball team that flips out about everything lol... It's competitive in nature and some are more so than others... Should we do something about sporting events as well? Have you seen how fans react sometimes worldwide? My dad went to a soccer game in Brazil and they were throwing bags of their urine at each other... People are always looking to lay the blame for human nature on something...
Competition brings out the vitriol in people. It's there to begin with, no doubt, competition just brings it to the surface. ***-talkers are everywhere, and they're not even the bottom-of-the-barrel.

I play alot of violent video games. And I promise you that I am one of the most laid back people you will ever meet. Aggression not a word I like to say without discomfort. Hell, that matter, everyone I know who plays video games (violent or not) is the same way.
If this is the case, then why hasnt the movie/tv industry been under alot more scrutiny? Which shapes our society just as much as video games, if not more.
There was one study once where they had some people who weren't gamers play God of War II. They had a group just play and go to work, and another group play, go to work, and think about the game while working (things like new combos, boss fight tactics etc). The group who thought about the video games all day were found to be more aggressive and had increased sciencey stuff in their blood that is related to aggression.
I don't really trust many studies like that myself though, as it seems that no matter what they always find what they intended to find one way or another.
Blood testosterone levels I assume? Did the survey investigate how that increased 'aggressiveness' was dispersed? Increased motivation to work and achieve targets? Increased levels of performance through daily tasks? I assume that these test subjects did not start fighting with each other, so what exactly is such a test meant to prove?
Increased blood testosterone levels will increase aggression, that's a primal reaction in men. Being able to make judgements and knowing the difference between right and wrong prevents aggression getting out of hand. It is known as the ego part of the psyche (see Sigmund Freud's ego).

Adrenaline impedes the ability to make logical decisions and judgements. It overloads the nervous system so to speak.
The best part is that you can walk into a book store and find books, like books to read for fun not for information, that are 10x as violent as most video games... for real, the Fantasy genre is worse then anything I've seen in games and I know there is worse out there then what I've read XD
Yet do people make a big deal of that? No, there just books right?
The Hunger Games series, is now a movie series, that is being released soon. The first movie is due out in about 6 days or so. It's a story in which 12-18 yr olds fight to the death... In very vicious fashion from what I understand. Yeah.. and little children read these kinds of books too. Yet books aren't to blame. Nope. Not one iota...
That.. is a horrible example. While they do fight to survive the book does not dwell on it or even give details. The most violent kill is at the end of the book and its not even by the hands of a human. The main character feels regret for even killing but she has to.
This is her first human kill and it only says she hot him in the neck. But the moment she heard her name escape Rue's lips, Marvel speared Rue in the abdomen, earning him an arrow through the neck, as Katniss tried in vain to save her.
Katniss rushed over to Rue and cut her out of the net and put Rue's head on her lap. Katniss held Rue's hand as a lifeline as if it were she who were dying and Rue holding her. Rue asked if she blew up the food and Katniss confirmed that she destroyed everything. Rue pleaded for Katniss to win and Katniss promised she'd win for the both of them. When Marvel's cannon fired, Rue told Katniss to stay with her and Katniss lingered right by her side. As a last wish, Rue asked Katniss to sing to her, and Katniss sang a lullaby until Rue's eyes fluttered shut and she died. The mockingjays soon picked up Rue's Lullaby and sang it through the entire arena.
To show the Capitol that Rue was more than a piece in the Games, Katniss covered her corpse in brightly colored flowers she found nearby to cover up her wounds.
the movie earned a PG-13 rating.. I even think they removed the blood from the weapons lol (not the point of this thread but there are worse books out there >_>)

I don't see how this is wrong/bad really. (I think the opinion may vary on age obviously.) I'm 27yo and I do remember in middle/high school some dumb kids pretending to be Kano from Mortal Kombat and hurting other kids.
I think this is simply informing the consumer/parent, which allows them to make a more educated choice in their purchase. Which imo isnt bad. Just like nutritional facts inform the consumer.
I do think, however, if your going to start labeling video games extensively, we might as well take it to the degree of Nutritional Facts. (E.g. include the benefits some video games have on analytical skills)
I do also think their needs to be some impartial opinion on this, specifically the APA. If the APA supports this then yes. I'm 100% for it.

But it doesn't mean they'll be aggressive outside of the game. Anyways, on the PS3 there isn't many aggressive players on CoD.
Play a few games of League of Legends if you want to see aggressive behaviors =P
Also to add on sports,
This only makes me think of that joke on 1000 Ways to Die.

You're gay right? So say, lets block all gay media, erase gay characters from games and make the ones who continue to keep them have a high rating. We both know that playing a gay character doesn't make you gay but isn't it the same?
(assuming you are.. I've seen you post in the LGBT thread. D:)

OH WOW! Just wow! So because i have gay friends and support LGBT equality I'm gay? Thats the most homophobic crap and idiocy I've heard of, in a while at least. I have gay friends and support LGBT because I'm human and dont discriminate the people I associate with and believe everyone deserves equal rights.
And what does me posting in the LGBT thread have to do with this topic?! Last time I checked no study ever showed homosexual character promote violence, drug usage, or illegal behaviour in school...
That might be an accurate parallel, only because idiots try and justify things like that.
I only justified it to the degree of Nutritional facts. and IF the APA supporting it, which it currently wouldnt based on their 2010/2011 report they made on violent video games.

Basing your case on some misbehaving school children is not enough I'm afraid. School kids misbehave and hurt each other all the time and usually the source of this kind of behaviour is attention seeking or a different psychological issue. If the kids acting this way had seen fighting moves from a movie they would imitate them instead, or seen fighting moves from a sporting event they would imitate them, it just so happens the video game was the most recent and most fresh in their mind.

There is nothing homophoebic about what he said... so he wrongly assumed you were gay which I agree was a silly thing to assume... but he didn't say anything derogatory. Stop getting in such a state over nothing.
I'd appreciate it if you cut the passive aggressive *** EB.
Also I'd appreciate to keep your ego in check with your overly defensive and misplaced rebuttals.
Perhaps I should explain something and maybe itll put it into context. I dont know how many of you know any people who are in AA, but you dont go around telling people they are in a 12 step program because it breaks their anonymity. Its kind of the same thing with gays and being in the closet. He should be the one stating such, not it being blabbed by a third party.
I do apologize if I did overreact because I do see that could have been misconstrued, but me being gay myself, I try to protect as many gays from being forced "out" as much as I can.

Mmmm, I mean it like this: politicians make idiotic/similar assertions about video games with violence as they do with gay people and influencing children's sexuality. They're both baseless assertions handled as if they're fact.

Oh yah i agree with u on that. I think the APA needs to comment on this for that reason. I dont agree with your gay comment, the APA stated its genetic/biological u cant influence genetic traits.
Correction, pparently last time they made an official statement on video games was 2003- Lolz

You're a supporter of equal rights regardless of sexual orientation, right? So say, lets block all gay media, erase gay characters from games and make the ones who continue to keep them have a high rating. We both know that playing a gay character doesn't make you gay but isn't it the same?
There, fixed. (I hope.)
Edit: I mean, I don't think the point was to offend people, and I hope that this minor change to the example will take the focus off of the remarks that caused such a reaction and put it back on the point that was trying to be made. I only saw someone trying to make a situation personal for another poster to help them relate to it in a different way.
Gotta love politicians that dont have a brain cell, yess lets spend tax payer money on labeling violent videogames as being a factor in real life violent behavior, even tho there is zero proof. And lets take it a step farther and label most videogames that way even if they dont have violence.
