Will the "Converts 3% of damage taken to MP" from Ethereal Earring activate/process concurrently with the "Converts X% of damage taken to MP upon successful block" from Ochain? I'm assuming yes, i.e. if you took 100 blocked damage with a level 90 Ochain (25%) equipped you would get:

Ochain = 25MP
Ethereal Earring = 3MP
-----------------------
TOTAL = 28MP

Is my understanding correct? I'm considering getting an E.Earring to macro in some situations with my Ochain. I also just wanted to make sure there wasn't any hidden or contrasting mechanics going on. thanks in advance!

Well obviously if you took 0 damage you're not gunna get MP back, but if you do, they should stack. I don't see why they wouldn't, this also includes creed armet.

correct. wiki actually states there is a minimum amount of damage needed to take for it to kick in, 33.4 dmg. this is so that you cant get hit for 10 damage and get a base value of 1 MP recovery, which would make the earring give more return than intended

For PLD? None. But why would you waste your earring on static?

Ethereal is the only good one. Damage to MP applies to magic damage too, and 2 MDB is worse than 2 MDT.

Hey sorry in advance if I sound like a jerk, but I don't think anyone really answered my question definitively. I did mention in my OP that " i.e. if you took 100 blocked damage" so let's assume that the blocked damage was 100, is my calculation above correct?

I may just have to test to find out.

If your char, not your shield takes more then 33.4dmg you will get mp, on etheral. etheral has nothing to do with shield blocked dmg.

Not that it makes Static Earring any less awful, but Ethereal doesn't reduce damage taken.

ethereal only takes into effect dmg taken. and it rounds down. 1-29 dmg = 0 mp. 30-59 dmg is 1 mp. ect ect

Most of us seem to be overlooking how useless MP is to a PLD that isn't soloing. Use something that increases your damage.

The answer is that Ethereal is even more useless with an Ochain. Decent idle option for mages without PDT earrings, decent for a hybrid EVA build on evasive DD. That's it.

Edit: Also DRG, I suppose.

Yes but MDT is very easy to cap on pld without using earrings.

You cant reach 45% since there isn't actually enough gear to get you to 45%. Theres Ethereal Earrings 3% then theres the AF3+2 helm with 5% so 8% for physical damage and 3% for magical damage.

As far as ochain goes "Converts damage taken to MP" =/= "Converts damage Blocked to MP". Its not calculated as the same thing if you block a 100 damage attack with ochain you get 25mp back now if after you blocked that attack did 0 damage neither Af3 helm nor ethereal earring will proc.

flume belt!!! ^^

Well, reforged PLD relic body has "Physical damage converted to MP +32" during cover but since it's SE I guess it converts 3,2% DMG to MP.
However, you shouldn't really need anything of this stuff...

Edit:
nvm, +2 body already converted 30% to MP

Ochain's MP convert is based on the DMG taken after block. If you take 0 dmg, Ochain isn't going to give you any MP either.

I got curious while thinking about this, and decided to test if Ochain's MP convert and other convert gear were additive to the same term.

And they do seem to be.

Tested with Ochain, ethereal, flume and Creed head+2. 35% MP convert. Used Hannibal's sword+Ares's cuirass+1 to 0 my auto refresh.

*note. The screenshot is just an example of how I was testing. More data than this is used in the table below.
Code
MP	DMG	MP2	Mpgain	percent	Calc'd	rounding loss
6	40	20	14 0.35	14	0
20	34	31	11 0.323	11.9	0.9
31	85	60	29 0.341	29.75	0.75
60	45	75	15 0.333	15.75	0.75
27	61	48	21 0.344	21.35	0.35
48	88	78	30 0.34	30.8	0.8
132	65	154	22 0.338	22.75	0.75
154	70	178	24 0.342	24.5	0.5
178	85	207	29 0.341	29.75	0.75

You lose a bit to rounding(well, flooring more like) a lot of the time, but it does look like 35% MP convert. So with 99 Ochain, you should indeed be able to reach 45% MP convert.
