I don't know much, but it looks like it's good cinematography, and that says a lot. It doesn't have that cheesy look, but rather a serious atmosphere with a lot of work.

I agree, but there's cheesy like watching a Jay Chou music video and there's just that foreign asian media look. Huge difference, and this is on the better side.

It looks kind of cheesy, honestly. That scene where he's kind of spinning his legs running across the ground reminds me of Crouching Tiger Hidden Shouldabeenananime.

Takeru Sato (playing Kenshin) IMO is a good actor; he was the maina ctor in Kamen Rider Den-O, and his character would often switch between different personalities when possesed.

NOT stoked.

Trust n' Betrayal is one of the greatest animated films made. Probably THE greatest period animated film imo (at least of those I have seen). It does not need a live action travesty associated with it thanks.
Attempting remakes of something excellent/classic will almost certainly fail. On top of that, Live action retakes also tend to fail also. Dragonball, Airbender, Death Note, Fist of the north star lol, Blood:TLV, Gantz (and they had the budget for this one it seems, it still failed) I could go on. Oldboy is an exception but as it has no animated counterpart I know of to compare against is unfair for this list.

If anyone can honestly think of a live action remake of an anime that actually came close to doing it justice I would love to know, but imo these are nothing more than cash-ins. Which reminds me that Cashern MAY be better than it's anime counterpart, but I hated it's anime counterpart so that should not be difficult.

Unfortunately we can expect (rumoured) Akira, Neon Genesis, Ninja Scroll and Gits live action films in the next 3 years too /sigh. Again none of which need to be butchered thanks.



This, though I would narrow it down to modern Japanese rather than broadly Asian. I do not think Korean/Thai/Chinese tend todo the "stage-show on screen" style over the top acting the Japanese do.
I personally love this style for a number of over the top films, but when attempting something remotely serious it comes across as dated and stupid looking. I don't even think half of these films would be bad AS stage-shows.

Not everything they do is like this, Confessions is a fantastic example of quality without the nonsense. I can only assume it is either a deliberate and liked technique to portray films or a throwback of having a less mature cinema industry.
