Hey all

Back again with more technical difficulties, have been playing alot last couple of days with no dramas what so ever, then about half an hour ago my windower crashed on vista 32 bit with the 'Playonline viewer stopped working' message. Now everytime i load up windower it crashes within 5 seconds of logging onto my chracter. Hoping somebody else has had this issue before andmight be able to help me!

Many thanks in advance!

P.S. I have tried to reinstall windower and done a system restore on my pc incase it was something i did and still the same drama. Game runs fine when running outside of windower. Also my ffxi is a steam install.

It's probably a broken plug-in.

Well ***, if it's not a plugin problem, it's a Steam problem. It might have changed something.

I had a similar problem - out of no where, just started doing that, and then again after only a couple minutes in game. I don't know for sure what my issue was, but, I ended up replacing my fonts, UI and maps, and that ended up fixing it, so I assume it was one of those. (I thought it happened when I looked at the Dynamis-Beaucedine map, but it also could have been coincidence. I was often looking at the map after logging back in to find everyone else in the party.)

If you have swapped maps/fonts/etc, maybe that will help out.

Changed my icons and font back to original, seems to be working o.o thank you so much dude. Have you since changed your fonts/icons back? It looks so ugly with the original

Yeah that's the thing - I wish I could be more help, but I don't really remember exactly what I did. But yeah, I do have new icons and fonts and maps. It doesn't really make sense - the only thing I can really think of (in my case) was that I copied something wrong or somehow changed a filename or something.*

It's a pain in the tail, but maybe try redoing like one thing at a time - do icons, test it, then do fonts, test it, etc.

*I also did a file check w/POL, but it never said anything missing/bad.

But the good news is that you are on your way back!

I have been having a problem similar to this, my windower just randomly crashes. A lot of the time it's when i'm doing something really fast in a menu, like scrolling then selecting something and it screws up my audio and inevitably I have to restart my computer. It never happens when I'm dinkin' around or just chillin', it's always when i'm in an event or in a party, stuff like that. I'm on win 7 64 bit with a Palit GTX 460 SE 1gig and I have the 64 bit box checked in the windower GUI. It's really hard to check for the issues because it will sometimes go hours without doing it them BAM it will do it like 3 times in 30 minutes. It's really frustrating and I have yet to find a solution >.>

Yeah it always seems so random... it is frustrating. It's never been like, "after an update, I can't do XXXXX thing or it will crash."

EDIT: DAMNIT!!! Well, that's all I really know to try, sadly. :(

I remember from the past usually crashes like that are because of .dat files. Something is wrong. Try changing all of them back one by one, if you want to do the long process or change them all back. Your choice. If you are able to log on, it's most likely nothing to do with the original files or hardware.

Do you have any other programs running that may be causing a conflict? Anything you have installed recently running in the background?

Have someone move you out of Xarcabard. See if that fixes anything. You may need to do a Repair on your FFXI via PlayOnline.

At first I thought maybe in was Rainbar because I started having these problems shortly after installing it, but I uninstalled it and the problem persisted. I replaced all of my plugins and re-installed Windower fresh, none of that worked. I'm checking my ffxi files now via POL for problems, fingers crossed.

in terms of .dat swaps, I'm only using pre existing dats such a Kikoku to skin over Kamome etc would that be the likely cause of this? Doing file check on POL atm

I'm not using any .dat swaps on this setup, and my pol file check just finished and found 1 error, it's repairing now and i'm hoping this is it.

Finally solved my crash problem! It was a bad spellcast .dll. I noticed when I was logging in the other day that spellcast had a "critical error failed to find isln combat" so I just downloaded spellcast .dll again and replaced the other one. I haven't had any problems since :D

UPDATE

I've found out its nothign to do with windower or .dat swaps... my game crashes whether runnign it through steam or windower everytime i enter xarcabard, in no other zone i can crash. This is doing my head in for a number of reasons A.) i can't finish up my apademak horns cos my pol crashes within 3 seconds of entering the zone, ive a file fix through POL reinstalled graphics card drivers, contacted a gm who ensured me area was working as intended etc etc. Has anyone encountered this problem or know what the cause may be?

Many thanks in advance

Honestly sounds like a .dat problem to me. I crash every time I swap gear in Port jeuno and when specific spells are casted due to a .dat mod I have. It could be a .dat mod you have or it could be due to a bad .dat somewhere, you might wanna run a file check and if that doesn't work you might want to consider reinstalling the game.

Murd.. I do believe a friend had the same issues, and it was xarc, b.c I asked him when he came with me up to Xarc for Abyssea, he zoned in, it would screw him up, and he too was on Steam....

Not sure if Steam works well with Windower with ppl who use dat swaps...wonder if thats SE way of LOL @ you... DAMN SE ***....

but if thats the case, you have backed up your game.. and replaced things back to default.. and idk.. you did try after that right?

hmmm?
