I am trying to make a spellcast rule that uses DNC AF3+2 hands for ws instead of my usual hands if I recently used Reverse/Wild Flourish. My reason is that if I just used those abilities, I am most likely skillchaining, so the extra 10% SC damage will probably outdo other competitors. Since those ja's do not give a status, making a rule to do this has proved difficult. I have tried different rules before, but nothing worked, so I gave up. Now, I am trying again with no luck.

Anyways, if anyone knows a way to do this, that would be awesome.
Code
<if spell="Wild Flourish">
<var cmd="set Skillchainin 1" />
<command>wait 10; sc var set Skillchainin 0</command>
</if>

<if spell="Your Weaponskill">
<doshit>
<if advanced='"$Skillchainin" = "1"'><equip when="precast"><hands>Stuff</hands></equip></if>
</doshit>
</if>

Not too much if you're just gonna use pre-made scripts. It's basically editing some text to reflect the gear you have.

If you want to create your own though, you'd need a working knowledge of XML.

If you're willing to take the time to sit down and go over existing xmls and figure out how they work, you don't need any prior programming experience. It's fairly simple and nearly all the rules are documented on the windower wiki.

I'd recommend looking at the xmls on the BG page rather than the windower page, as most of the windower ones are old and not particularly well designed. The BG scripts as a whole are fairly complex (Yugl's and Motenten's in particular), but there's a few simpler ones you can easily dig into as well.

I had the equivalent of about a year's worth of programming experience when I started digging into spellcast, but no experience with xml whatsoever. If you understand if-then/elseif/else statements and basic and/or/not logic, you'd be at about the same point as I was relative to what you can actually do in spellcast.

Not saying I'm GOOD at making spellcast stuff, but I know nothing of programming other than what I've learned from just reading through xmls other people have sent me, and a bit of reading on windower.net spellcast info.
And from that I've learned how to make xmls a bit more advanced than what I would personally concider "basic".
So it's not hard to learn at all, it's all very obvious codes.

For my Omphalos safety, since my previous code didn't save it...
Code
<if commandprefix="/range|/weaponskill">
    <if equipammo="Omphalos Bullet">
        <equip when="precast"><ammo>remove</ammo></equip>
        <cancelspell />
        <addtochat>Omphalos warning!</addtochat>
    </if>
</if>
Is this enough? Should I add more to be sure? I'm fairly certain my previous one was shot due to lag...

What are ninjas used for these days? I want to start gearing out my ninja with Kannagi and a Str katana but I heard Ninjas are worthless outside abyssea. Is this true?

Procs in VW, but that's mostly just magic procs.
In general yes, Ninja is "useless" outside of abyssea.

But really, "outside" means VW, Legion, Dynamis and Einherjar these days.
For all old content, you can use your ninja just fine if you wish.
Dyna farming NIN\DNC is ok, but a job with TH would be a better idea.
For ADL farming\other dyna bosses, NIN is useless.
Legion, you'll never get a spot on NIN.
Einherjar, Ninja is a good tank for lowman OdinV1, but it's not a very good job for OdinV2.

Depends what you bring really, if you're in a group of 3-5 you can most likely just power through lamia without worrying too much about adds. Armed Gears still basically requires magic damage, its DT- is ridiculous.

Use Stardiver and then just standard crit atmas? RR, AoA, SS.

SAM is only 87 atm, have 0 Polearm skill but I do plan on going 5/5 Shoha/Stardiver. Polearm beats GKT on all lower stuff I'm guessing?

You can power through it. I did it DNC + WHM.
Wonder if Requiescat ignores the DT?

I'm fairly sure a non-RR setup came out tops when I last looked at SAM atmas, but this was some time ago. 4-hit polearm and cruor buffs shifts most of your damage over to WS, so maximizing WS frequency and output becomes your best approach. Apoc and A&O should definitely be used, just not sure on third atma.

Lamia uses charm each time an add dies, fairly sure it will never use it otherwise.

I recently did it as DRK + healer, just equipped twilight scythe and auto-attacked it to death in no time. :P

Edit: What I meant by that was Req should work!
