Random Question thread (FFXI related)
By Tathamet 2023-10-31 19:24:26
Looking to familiarize myself a bit better with the whole weapon skill wall thing- is there a BG wiki page on it? I thought this was a thing in Odyssey at the higher vengeance levels, but I'm not seeing a reference to it on the main Odyssey page.
I've seen posts that say just don't use the same weapon skill back to back. How I understood this was if player 1 used Torcleaver and player 2 used Savage Blade, they could repeat their weapon skills forever as long as one player went after the other and things would be a-ok.
I've also seen posts that imply that isn't the case and that both players should rotate to different weapon skills as well. For example, Player 1 Torcleaver, Player 2 Savage Blades, Player 1 Resolution, Player 2 CDC, and THEN the cycle can repeat again starting with Torcleaver.
Help me understand plz <3

Help me understand plz <3 The way I understand the WS wall is more or less, 7 different actions have to be inflicted on the monster between each Same WS.
So if you Savage Blade, then there has to be a mixture of 7 spells/JAs/other WSes done before Savage Blade can be used again at full power. so basically if you got 4 people WSing and there's WS wall, then everyone just uses an alternate WS, with no repeating WSes, while the backline casts on it, and nobody should get walled. I think

There are multiple things called a WS wall so it depends which boss you're fighting.
For Ody vengeance and Sortie basement bosses AFAIK there is no penalty for using the same WS, provided a different WS is done between yours and the next. If you hit the same WS back-to-back without ~10 seconds delay between, it will deal massively reduced damage, on the order of -90 or -95%.
For 3/4 basement bosses, we have 2 people spamming Savage Blade and I've seen back-to-back 60k SB on BRD. Maybe there were 7 actions between, but I doubt it.
I've killed all manner of V25 bosses while spamming the exact same WS for the entire fight, including T3s. As long as there is someone else going between your WS, you're fine.
For Dynamis wave bosses, if you spam the same WS over and over, it will degrade in damage unless you mix in other WS to get it out of the "history". This applies across multiple people spamming the WS. I'd say this is sort-of like the craftsmanship penalty from Escutcheon, where you've got a tally of the last ~20 WS, and the more frequently your chosen WS appears in that list, the less damage it does. It will slowly creep down to doing a tiny fraction of the original damage, but with enough variety, you don't really have to worry about it.
These are not too well-documented, but some of the boss pages list them.

Can I still evolve a monster if it's been at a midpoint stage for a very long time (multiple interactions and feedings) just not the evolution item
Or do I need to release it and start over

Of course
Well... I don't know for a fact if you leave say a sabotender for 10 years if it will get stuck and unable to evolve... But it should still evolve.
By Dodik 2023-11-02 10:34:54
Some monsters never go above 2 stars (sabo is one). Will just need to keep feeding evolution food until it evolves.
Technically can start feeding evolution food from day 1, just the chance of evolving is higher the more stars it has.
Short answer yes, it can evolve.

Neat
Do any other evolution foods make the monsters mad like sabotendor?

Can't remember any others offhand that get angry about their evo food... Maybe behemoths, bombs?

Yeah there are a fair number of monsters who are unhappy when you feed them their evolution food. It's not a big deal, I usually just feed their preferred food and wait until they're ready to evolve to feed them their evolution food.
Examples: Hecteyes, Lynx, Citrullus, Abyssobugard, Ferromantoise, Blazing Wyrm

Yes, don't think them getting angry does anything other than reduce their happiness which eventually needs moogle stars to fix.

FWIW I got all 84 monster rearing KIs for every single pet and I only encountered a monster requiring a star once. I don't recall which pet it was on, and had to consult the wiki because I had no idea what had just happened. All this to say: it is exceedingly rare and not something you need to worry about realistically.
My strategy was really simple: every day do the interaction which makes the monster happy (except Behemoths which don't have one) and then feed it one of the foods that makes it happy. Anything in the category is fine. Once it's ready to evolve (1.5 stars of happiness for most pets, 2.5 for some), do the exact same thing, but feed it the evolution food instead. That's all I did, for every single monster in the entire list. Sometimes if the evolution food was really cheap/plentiful and also something that makes them happy, I'd feed that to them exclusively, but the vast majority of the monsters got the cheapest, most easily-accessible food I could find in their favorite category.
Worked for me, most of them evolved really quickly and gave me KIs without any fuss. By the time a monster is ready to evolve, it will already so happy with you that a tiny decrease doesn't even register and you're still making them happy with the interaction.

If THE login campaign showed up as a huge supprise
I am not sure what would be strategicly my best option
Last time I spent the points on glavoid shells to make a ***.
Would it be better to spend them on the moth scales or cerb?
Is there a more annoying farm item then glavoid and chloris?

I would say Orthrus (as well as Alfard or Apademak, if anyone is gonna ask something similar), depending on your personal situation. If you're multiboxing, or have very nice friends, you can raise amber and cleave away for KI's in Tahrongi. That's not entirely an option for those 3 NM's. They require:
one pop item from fodder
One pop item from a 10-15 min freespawn NM that may not drop its item
One pop item from a pop NM that may not drop its item
You can still cleave for the pop items for those NM's provided you keep under ~60ish Amber, but considering you will be raising azure and possibly ruby depending on cleave job, you'll be getting less gold boxes in general. Additionally, as you kill more NM's, you'll be raising ebon light, which may start to load big gold boxes depending on your amber light.
Doing the Heroes dragons is an absolute *** joke compared to the other 3 empy NM's (unless you're on Asura lol). I think I was able to bang out all 75 Isgebind hearts in like 3-4 hours total.

If someone is missing is there a way to verify whether they quit or got banned? Ignoring the possibility they jumped servers for a name change.

I've just gotten into making Ambu capes myself recently.
For the jobs I don't have them for yet I basically just use the DEX/acc Wildskeeper mantle for TP then Buquwik or however it's spelled for WS. Moonbeam for DT set.
Still using Moonbeam in DT sets even on jobs I got cape for. The 250 HP has already saved my bacon a few times.

What's the procedure for BLU cleaving job points? Does your BLU need to be ML?
Are there any other ways to significantly speed up JP?
I get about Capacity Point chain 30 with trusts, depending on what job I'm working on at the moment, but I'd love to hear any tips or tricks to go faster.
I suppose the realest solution is to just buckle down and make it the focus of all my play time for a while, but there's just so much to acquire and so little time to acquire it these days...

Can anyone confirm a Bayld Crystal removes all steps before I "For Science" it?
BG doesn't have enough clarity on it to calm my inner skeptic...

What do you mean "removes all steps"
It completes the final step. You still have to do everything else.
